I just want to preface this review by saying that my wife and I have previously had fantastic food and drink in this local coffee shop but this write-up comes after a solid week of sub par customer service and this was the icing on the cake that we were not allowed to eat on the premises this evening...let me sprinkle some more detail on this for you; much like the non existent marshmallows on our hot chocolates they we intended to buy but were put off from doing so.
After a long evening walk with our daughter on a chilly January Saturday, we made the Pumpkin Patch our final port of call for cake and hot chocolate. We strolled in at 4:25pm and found a table that had enough room to accommodate the pushchair in a bustling restaurant filled with people eating and drinking gorgeous looking food and hot drinks. My wife went to the bar to order and peruse the cake selection only to be told, "it's takeaway only, you know." I looked around bamboozled at the patrons enjoying their purchases, clearly not having taken their's out. The place closes at 5pm, unless I'm going to eat the cake with chopsticks and drink the hot chocolate through a snorkel, it will not take me any more than ten minutes to be out of their hair and on our way.
Presumably, we would have had to pay full price for a takeaway cup of hot chocolate to then drink in our own home, a stone's throw away from an identical tub of powdered chocolate that we have in our own kitchen. I also wonder if we could have got this takeaway drink and sat down to drink it then have been out of there within ten minutes.
The barman was right about one thing; it is takeaway only. I took away my family, our money and any...
Read moreNice food and staff on previous visits. No complaints, but a small suggestion from a fan of the café. I think you should list your kitchen opening times on google alongside your normal opening times to avoid confusion. We went earlier today after checking that the café was still open online about 15:05. I was in the queue with a food menu (that was still out for viewing at about 15:20) for about 10 minutes waiting to be served before being told the kitchen was shut and had been since 3. Was a bit awkward for both myself and the member of staff. We left, but not before noting there was a sign on the door expressing this but with the door being propped open, it's not very eye catching or easy to see as your first approach the entrance and walk in. The sign is also extremely low on the door also, so visibility of it isn't great. Maybe put the opening time signs on the window at eye level during summer times when the door is propped open? Also post the kitchen opening times on google etc as said above. Just to avoid any more awkward encounters lol, as someone did remark to us as we left they'd been caught out on it before too, despite being a regular, so I think this has happened a few...
Read moreI'm really sad to be writing this post but I feel it is necessary. I came in with friends to have a birthday lunch which was only a sandwich but when it arrived the egg mayo sandwich was so bland and like scrambled egg. But to top it off there was a hair in it. I called this young girl over about the hair. There was no apology, no offer of another one, or even offer of a refund. Now I've worked in customer services before and if there's issues with food we would always apologise to the customer, offer them a replacement and if they refuse that we would even offer a free cup of coffee. As it happens I actually had to turn around and say to the girl, I don't want another one as she had taken it out to the kitchen and I think another sandwich was going to be prepared which I didn't ask for. Once my friends had finished their sandwiches and about to leave, i had to go to the counter and ask for a refund which was really embarrassing. That really shouldn't have happened, totally unprofessional. Also salad creams, mayo etc, once opened, should get kept in a fridge not left out. Salad cream was room temperature and tasted odd. Won't...
