So previous years I have loved this place, however on this visit I did feel that they have let things slide substantially to start we was left to wait for 10 mins before being asked for drinks order. The sharing starter was delicious the mains not as impressive I had the roast duck to which I had to ask for vegetables as they had forgotten them even had to show them the menu to prove it was missing them before the blank face on the waitress changed, shortly after this she appeared with a bowl of veg that had some kind of sauce on areas of it (assumed it has been removed from a different dish that was ready for speed of serving) . My partner had roast beef while all the items was present and accounted for the beef was very cold.
Both wines we had were lovely.
The only other thing I think the establishment needs to address is the toilet situation there is only two single toilets available and while this is not ideal given the capacity of the building the more pressing issue is the lack of care of them the women's had run out of loo roll and was very unpleasant to the nose. And in the gents the flush was damaged which I think had put people off using it as was greeted with what the previous user had deposited.
I will revisit the place in the future as it's a beautiful place and a gem in Canterbury I just think they need to...
Read moreHere we go another 1 star. Food was below average tbh, we ordered lamb shank and the roast beef. Lamb shank was dry and tough. The roast was a nightmare, it was like eating a rubber. Then, i found a “fish bone” like texture inside my food and call the manager. The manager wasn’t happy at all and pick the “bone” directly from my plate in front of me on the table and telling me it’s not a fish bone. Very disrespectful and unpleasant experience tbh. As all the review below, seems many people have similar experience with ALI (the manager) and his attitude. He was telling me he was a michelin star chef and this is the way they do it. At this point, I’m so speechless. Not even close.
If you’re reading this, i hope you learn about how to treat customer well. I believe he is not happy for customers complaining, and at the back of his mind, complaining/ giving feedback=asking for free food, which is totally untrue.
The 1 star is for the ok starter, a mussels (which the wait around 35 mins since we order)
In the end, i try to tell him again after he get his rationale back, and he was offering a free dessert, which we didn’t take, due to obvious reason (and a train to catch...
Read moreThe Old Weavers House is a traditional British restaurant located in the heart of Canterbury. The restaurant is housed in a beautifully restored 16th-century building, and the interior is decorated with exposed beams, timbered walls, and a cosy fireplace. The menu features classic English dishes such as pies, roasts, and fish and chips. The food is all made fresh to order, and the portions are generous.
For our main courses, we had the mixed grill and seafood mixed. The mixed grill was cooked to perfection, and the meat was so tender that it melted in our mouths. The seafood was also cooked perfectly, and the flavours were perfectly balanced. The chips were cut in a unique way, which makes a nice change.
The service at The Old Weavers House was excellent. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. She made sure that we had everything we needed, and she was happy to answer any questions we had.
We sat outside in the sun next to the water, but the interior looked amazing too, what gave the restaurant character.
I would recommend coming here if you like good food, a little pricey, but I left satisfied, and felt what I paid...
