Olive Grove — Restaurant in Canterbury

Me and my band went there for food before we headed to the venue. To begin with, we've waited good 15/20 mins to have our drinks served then put an order for food in as we were all hungry because of touring atm. We've had to wait a good hour for our food to actually arrive and we were all pumped for it as its quite expensive (the waiter was saying the salmon takes a long time to cook, like what????? Who cooks salmon for a good hour?) What was on the menu and what was actually delivered was not the same. I've ordered the Olive Grove Salmon with seasonal veggies. Seasonal veggies drenched in oil, unseasoned, veeeery bland salmon and mash, lots of shells with no mussels in them, bland sauce. No seasoning or anything. so after we've eaten because we were all super hungry and we ran out time, the waiter asked me how was the food and I've been honest, Ive said it was pretty bland and dissapointing for that price. Two minutes after another waiter comes upstairs full of attitude and questions me why did I eat the food if it was bland. I've told him it was because we were hungry as we are touring and we didn't have time to go somewhere else then he starts having a go at me and being quite rude and defensive to the point where I've had to raise my voice to calm him down. He then says "when I've asked you the first time, you said the food is okay now you say is bland" and explained to the guy again that we were all hungry and we've had expectations for the money we were about to pay then the waiter turns around and says "what are you, VIP or something?". We've left that place with a bad taste in our mouths! Very rude, probably coked up staff that shouldn't be in that job!!!! Avoid that place at all costs, untrained chef and staff!...

Dining in at the restaurant wasn't an overly good experience. Waiter chewing gum while serving food and talking to customers, another waiter did not seem to be in any kind of uniform, thought he was a member of public and had just got off the sofa from what he was wearing. We called in advance, on the same day as dining, to ask about food due to allergies for one guest, we were told they could serve completely plain rice, when ordering it we were told this would not be possible as seasoning are put on the rice in the morning. When we got the rice it was very oily, leaving a small puddle of oil on the plate, we could not be bothered to mention it as it was getting embarrassing at this point. We asked for salt and pepper 3 times before eventually not asking so nicely and finally getting it. Then there was confusion among staff regarding the 20% NHS discount, one told us they do not do that, after showing them their own website they went to get someone else to talk to us who then gave us 10%... Because I booked this table online beforehand, they kept emailing me asking for a review, I was not going to do it, however they kept emailing me and it started to bother me a lot. I gave them an honest review and selected for it not to be published for the public to view, I never got any reply after the experience, and so I decided to do one here to warn others.

I was very reluctant to return, however I ordered via Just Eat and the food was amazing. I ordered the same dish was I did in the restaurant and got a lot of rice when I never got any in the restaurant?? Seem to get a lot better service when ordering as a takeaway, think this will be the way I will order from here from now on. Was surprised they offer a 20%...

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the dishes were served quickly and of high quality. The attention to detail was evident, making me feel like a special guest. Conclusion: My visit to this restaurant was an unforgettable experience.
