Stanwix Tandoori Restaurant — Restaurant in Carlisle

Visited this restaurant last night while on a work trip all the way from Essex. The restaurant looked promising and had very modern decor. The food however did not live up to the look of the place. I ordered a butter chicken, which I always have all over the country. This one came up bright pink/red and the chicken was strange chewy thin strips. The rice was dry and the naan bread was like flat bread with some garlic on it. My coworker ordered a Chicken Biryani. The sauce on it wasn’t bad but very average. The rice very dry and it has a boiled egg on top - which was slightly grey all around and the inside was ENTIRELY BLACK. Jet black and tasted horrible. Not impressed at all especially for the price...

Got our first takeaway in months this evening. Anyone worried about safety precautions being taken re: coronavirus, don't be. I was extremely impressed with the social distancing measures taken. I liked being shown to my own table while I waited ( the table was cleaned prior to me being seated). Payment taken and given my order very quickly (as usual), order placed on a separate table so no touching. Then a member of staff ensured the stairwell was clear by walking down first and ensuring nobody else came up. I Got home and my husband and I had the most delicious food we've eaten in ages. This place is top-notch for Tandoori. The food always tastes really fresh. And the service is quick and efficient – you don't feel like they're trying to push you out the door in order to get the table back.

The staff are all really welcoming and friendly, which is a nice touch.

The place looks great since they've done it up – it's much more modern now. Price-wise, we've never found it to be overly expensive. Obviously, if you have alcoholic drinks, it adds a bit, but that's the same everywhere.

The only slight issue is that it's upstairs, so it might be a bit tricky if you have someone with mobility issues. But they do offer a takeaway service,...
