A fabulous park that hosts many community and arts events, fireworks, and outdoor concerts. There's a wonderful children's playground, sensory gardens, tennis courts, car park, and hosts Carlisle Tribe. There are accessible paths around the park, cycle paths, the Hadrian's Wall Trail, and a park run. There's access to the River Eden, Victoria Park, Rickerby Park, and The Swifts Nature Reserve. It's located behind the Castle and across the road from the city centre. So it's easy to get here by public transport (bus or train).
Carlisle Fireshow. This was my second show, the first to be hosted by the Cumberland Council. It's a very family-friendly event with plenty of stewards, first aiders, porta loos, space for thousands of people, and plenty of parking throughout the city. There's a "Fireshow Village" on Castle Car Park offering family entertainment, food, and drink outlets. You can pop a donation in a bucket. Collection is usually done by members of the Rotary Club with all the funds raised going to local charity. The show starts with a themed light show, followed by the bonfire, and then the 2000+ fireworks set to music. It was a wonderful evening out. Read moreCalled into Carlisle as we were close by and found the buildings in the main shopping area so nice to look at. The shops were a good mix and some street pedestrianalised. As it was a Sunday parking was free as it is Saturday as well. We walked down to Bitts park and along by the river which is a please r oasis near the town centre. As it was lunch time we called into an area in the park with small food outlets in shipping containers. I opted for the Lebanese one and got a hot bread with chicken and cheese and hotish sauce with a portion of fries for £5 .00 and a coffee from another venue. I ate it outside on benches and tables there over looking the parks play area. It was very tasty and filling and I would recommend this place for a lunch time snack as it's just a short walk from...
