Decided to visit the Anchor again today (first time since ownership has changed) and being a Friday lunchtime we quite expected the place to be very busy as it always was but place was empty apart from one party of 14 - restaurant tables not even laid - no designated restaurant staff anymore - had to wait and chase starter numerous times - same for main course - no alternative menu anymore only lunch menu - staff kept apologising for wait advising there was an issue in the kitchen- not once did the so called Manager appear to apologise to us or the group of 14 until one of the party asked to see the Manager to complain they had waited over an hour for their starters and asked as to why no one had advised them by phone, before they arrived, that there was unfortunately an issue in the kitchen which could have a serious impact on the level of service - they would of rebooked another day when service could be assured - needless to say they won't be coming back soon - prices have increased but sadly service nowhere near to the standard prior to which the old owners extended to their clientele so we won't be back soon - it's such a great shame that the old owners left such a successful legacy behind - the new owners need to rethink as to how they want the business to develop and achieve but the current format belive me -...
Read moreHad an event booked for 2020, deposit paid in 2019 and we were given a tiny piece of paper with just 100 wrote through with a signature. It's currently Oct 2021 2 years after that and the piece of paper got lost but due to lockdown instead of getting refund we changed the date again and that time, we was on system so we were able to get date changed but due to the lockdown restrictions happening again, we had to re change and we asked for this to be emailed over as confirmation and we recieved nothing at all, no text nothing. Due to the fact we were on system before, we trusted them anyway. However, when we called up to cancel as we decided to go to a different area, we apparently aren't on system and without the proof they didn't send over which they said they would, we can't get our 100 deposit back. We put trust in them so that's why we believed we would get confirmation. So this isn't based on a day out here, this is based on paying a deposit and a lady not willing to help so we lost £100 for nothing. If you book this place, don't wait for them to send anything, ensure you get it then and there or get something signed in person always. Don't let this happen to you if you have to cancel. Read moreWent to the Anchor Inn for Sunday Lunch. It has new owners, and the prices have increased by an average of 40%. The bar had around 6 people in it & the restaurant area was empty. That being said it took around 40 minutes to get served. The portions were smaller than previously, and no children's portions are available. In addition the beef was tough. No desserts were offered. I asked for the bill and we waited a further 20 minutes. We then had to go to the bar to pay as the bill didn't arrive. I asked if the manager was available, and was told she was in the beer garden, although she was supposed to be managing. I would not recommend this...
