Terrible experience despite what the reviews say!

Four of us ordered Sunday lunch. Two were inedible. The meat was tough & unpleasant. There was a horrible underlying taste.

I asked the waitress to take our plates away.

I went to pay the bill and told the manager it was unpleasant & inedible. He would not let me speak & told me to “go back & eat where I normally eat”. I was so shocked. I said everything had an underlying taste which wasn’t nice. He said “I was probably used to Bisto & that they only use meat juices for the gravy”. To be honest I think Bisto would have done a much better job.

He would not reduce the bill saying we had eaten three quarters of our meal before complaining. I had eaten one potato, a tiny bit of meat & a mouthful of Yorkshire pudding but due to the underlying taste I left the rest. He was the most awful & argumentative.

I can not recommend anything about this establishment and do not order...

We went for a lunch there today, Saturday for the first time. We were pleasantly surprised at the layout and friendliness of the place and the lovely atmosphere created from the decor and areas of seating in alcoves around the restaurant. Then the food we had was wonderful, a local soup followed by a splendid cheese and meats board with lovely fresh bread followed by a Beef goulash which was divine and then what tasted like home made mince pies. Excellent home-cooked food at reasonable prices. Bespoke additions/exclusions seem to be welcome as I asked for changes to ingredients in my omelette and they did that without question. My wife had the homemade goulash, with homemade mash and veg, with complementary proper gravy on requests. We both loved the food and would highly recommend a visit. The staff are very friendly too, we felt they had excellent customer service and positive attitude. It might look like an innocent local pub from the outside, but inside it is an absolute gem.
