Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Charnwood

I have to update my review, as recently the coffee has deteriorated noticeably. It lacks both taste and body compared to my high street favourite (Cafe Nero). The staff are also indifferent, especially some of the younger ones who would benefit from some training (especially how to greet customers with a smile ☹️). I also object to being given a takeaway cup 30m before closing 😠. The manager (Salli) on the other hand is always professional, courteous and friendly. Things definitely go pear shaped when she's not there (franchisee take note).

I love Costa. I buy 1-2 coffees daily and I rarely have a bad thing to say.

On this occasion I was in the Leicester area. Closing time for this particular Costa was listed as 5.30pm on Google, so I took a detour and arrived at the counter at 4.58pm to order.

A bolshie woman told us they were closed, telling me they close at 5pm not 5.30pm! (Surely if this were the case they’d be serving for another 2 minutes since it was 4.58pm). I showed her the time on my phone and she just shrugged her shoulders and told us we had to leave. It was still 4.58pm when I walk out the door. She was obviously tired, bored and wanted to go home...

Stop by here every once in a while to grab a drink. White hot chocolate is my usual go-to. Staff seem friendly enough. The cake choice can sometimes be a bit hit or miss, and sometimes a bit dry. Layout is a little cramped in some areas, but plenty of seats tucked away nicely for a little added privacy. I’m not too keen on feeling centre of attention while drinking so it works for me.
