The people of Anstey hide a secret. This little gem. A great old fashioned pub feel awaits after you’ve seen the old fashioned exterior. Inside it’s clean and fresh and very well presented. We stumbled across this today when we were out and about. We had a Sunday dinner. Priced at around £13 and pence we all had the pork and we were not disappointed. An off piste selection of veg accompanied a very very tasty meal at a very good price. Most pubs stick with carrots peas and broccoli etc. not here. We had leaks parsnips roasted along with some carrots. A home made yorkie. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. I was shocked that there were not more people eating. But we were early. We were so impressed we asked after Xmas day. (It’s been booked up for ages) and I’m not surprised. I can’t wait to take my wife here. Going to get a cab next time. They had some nice ales that looked very inviting. Don’t let the people of Anstey have this to themselves. Support these great pubs. The pic is pre gravy. You can have as much gravy as you like. Nothing was too much trouble. They do dessert too. I’ll share that experience next time.

A lovely, cosy pub with great food! Old Hare & Hounds in Anstey is a real gem. The food is absolutely delicious – freshly made and full of flavour. The atmosphere is very warm and cosy, with lots of separate tables that give you a real sense of privacy. It almost feels like being at home! A perfect spot for a relaxed meal or quiet evening out.

Popped in for a drink, was charged £4.55 for a lemonade and lime. When asked if the price was correct was told "yes, dear isn't it." Sat out back, a few tables next to the carpark. Probably won't return again.

First time visiting for food since being under new management. Menu was Sunday roasts, with a vegetarian option. I was really impressed with the service, portion sizes, variety of veg, and quality of the ingredients, but most especially the size of the Yorkshire pudding! Really appreciated that lunch arrived with an extra gravy boat so that we didn't need to ask for more. The slices of beef were quite chunky, so could have been a little thinner for me, but this is just personal preference. Definitely recommend if you're in the area, I would advise booking, as we only saw 1 table not booked, and get there earlier rather than later, as by 2:30 they were starting to run out of choices of meat and extras.

Visited again today, unfortunately not quite to the same standard so was a little disappointed. The roast potatoes were undercooked, and they have reduced the veg to include dauphinoise potatoes. I'd have preferred more than 2 veg, 2 different types of potatoes was overkill. Yorkshire pudding was a big reasonfor revisiting as we are not lical, whilst still bigger than average, were much smaller than before, so will think again before another visit. Service...

It started with a phone call to ask if the pub was wheelchair friendly, A delightful young lady , Denise, she told me it was, and explained that due to the marquee in the car park, I should drop the wheelchair user at the front then go and park the car which was fine. The then minutes later the same young lady phoned me to say that if I booked the table the landlord has said he will open the gates and let me park there. WOW !!! so that is what we did the next day. there was even a ramp to help us down the step to get into the bar. what lovely old pub, just like they used to be, before profit became more important than the customers. we were looked after by another young lady, Jo , she could not have done more for us , all four of us had a lovely meal with a few drinks. the food was really lovely, must try the Sunday dinners. my friends live near there so they will definitely be going back. Just want to say a big thank you to both the young ladies, the chef, and the landlord, you really made...
