Elachi Fine Indian Cuisine — Restaurant in Chelmsford

Quite revolting. The poppadoms were nice and the portion sizes generous but from there it was all downhill. The pilau rice was in no way authentic. It was plain boiled rice with added grains dyed red or green! Lurid colourings permeated the meal. My meal was some chicken dyed red on the outside with huge chunks of cooked mango in a bright yellow sweet sauce. My partner's was king prawns in a tomato and pepper sauce (quite tasty but why weren't the prawns peeled properly!) The onion bhajis, usually my favourite, were obviously reheated and tough, despite the fact that the restaurant had just opened. The sag paneer would have been nice except it had been nuked and the cheese had melted. All in all a waste of money and 75% of it went in the bin. This has to be one of our favourite restaurants. When we're in South Woodham Ferrers it's almost impossible to resist visiting. We have never had a bad meal from Elachi (either dining in or takeaway). The menu is extensive but the chef is still able to make changes to items. I have been able to request a biryani with the curry made to madras heat. Meals appear quickly, and are immaculately presented, food alway tastes fresh. All the staff are friendly and if we're unable to finish everything they have been happy to place any leftovers in containers to takeaway. It tastes almost as good the next day. We have been told that weekends are very busy but we last went on a week night and almost had the place...

Welcoming atmosphere with warm friendly staff who make you feel you have arrived home with a fresh cooked meal and easy conversation. Food arrived very quickly and they were always on hand to offer anything else we needed.

The plethora of food choices with descriptions of what you would be getting meant it was a no brainer to try something different and there was no rushing us to make a decision even at peak dining time.
