Went to The Batch House on recommendation however it was the most chaotic experience I've ever had. I love the concept but it's poorly exicuted. If you are offering an app and order to table service the basic requirement is that you have sufficient connectivity go support this. 3 of us struggled to access the WiFi as the only place this is advertised is at the bar, the opposite end the the venues entry door and the venue sits in a Data coverage black hole. Staff advised us of the password but we couldn't connect. Husband ended up going OUTSIDE to get enough data to open the app and look at the menu. Staff said that it's 'patchy' and stronger at the bar end.... not much point of us ordering on the app if we have to go to the bar we might as well just order at the bar. When my husband did order the bar staff not only took his time but also went and got his phone out and had a chat before pouring the drinks. Obviously used to dealing with app orders and not trained on how to serve when customers are directly in front of them No one explained the parking situation it's only by chance we saw something on a table across from us. Again struggling to register to yet another website with the poor WiFi and Data coverage. When you actually get on the app you can only order from 1 kitchen at a time. Our orders came out at different times where our daughter had almost finished. Our platter from the Portuguese kitchen was a poor execution of a Nandos where the chicken looked grey and anemic, stodgy rice (both clearly microwaved) and we had to ask for the chips as these were forgotten (waitress said it wasn't included so I had to pull up the menu) a platter is also clearly for sharing but we weren't provided side plates. I was advised there was no senior staff on site. On behalf of the staff I think this is poor form expecting them to deal with this with no management support. All in all this is a venue that thinks it's better than it is and has a lot of work to do around quality. The food is expensive for your portion size, and isn't reflected in the quality. It's all short order warmed up food and non is...
Read moreI will start by saying this review is in absolutely no way a negative one on any of the front of house staff, or the chefs.
Firstly, the venue itself is great, and the concept is a good one having worked all over the place with other venues, and is something Chesterfield needed, however the execution is off.
The bar staff are good at their jobs, however all seem demoralised and like they don't want to be there most of the time. I think the reason for this is that there never seems to be an owner or member of management present; the bar is being run by supervisors who look like they are left blind, made to deal with issues they shouldn't have to for far less money than that sort of responsibility entails. The drinks are fine, if a bit pricey, and cashless venues rarely sit right with me, not that you can blame the staff for that. It's also pretty rubbish that the cocktails are served from a tap on the wall, something you wouldn't be aware of if you walked in and ordered off the app. Again, this did seem to demoralise staff as they weren't happy serving that sort of thing.
The restaurants are all great, however recently more and more of them have been shutting down which leaves a lack of food options, something that defeats the purpose of a food hall. This, along with other issues relating to upper management, appears to put a serious strain on the (likely) minimum wage waitstaff, who are forced to deal with enquiries they have no power to solve.
Overall, I would say that the concept is good, the food is decent, and the drink selection is fantastic (even though a lot of people won't recognise half the drinks on the bar). However, this is hampered by the place being run absolutely abysmally, and the staff being left absolutely in the lurch by whoever these mysterious, never present owners are. If the staff are treated poorly to the point where they don't want to be there, how can they be expected to provide a good level of...
Read moreWe went to the Batch House Chesterfield to celebrate my son birthday. A table was reserved for us. The servers came a took the birthday away which they were happy for us to taken in with us. We placed an order for drinks at the bar and the server brought them to the table. There is an QR to scan to view menu annd place our orders but we decided to place our orders by visiting all the different stalls . All the meals arrived at the same time so we ate together. The food was really good, piping hot and delicious from burgers and wrap meals to Japanese and Greek meals. The service.and servers were great , pleasant friendly , service with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. They cleared all the table and then brought out the cake which they had placed all the candles on, lit them and they came out singing ‘happy birthday’. It was great atmosphere , very clean pleasant surroundings. We had a great night so thank you to Fletcher and all the other servers you did a brilliant job. I’m very happy to recommend The Batch House it’s has a up to date buzzing and different modern vibe which added to the atmosphere. Thank you all. We will be back again soon. P.s the only negative we had was that not all the different ‘stalls’ were open so we couldn’t get anything from bakery or get a latte but everything...
