We never imagined that a casual stop at the 24 Royal Terrace Bar would lead to some of our fondest memories from our week in Edinburgh. What began as a spontaneous detour for a quick refreshment on the way to a reservation in the Old Town became the first of several visits. We were swiftly seated on the beautiful outdoor terrace and warmly welcomed by our host, Tony. The garden, bathed in sunshine, was simply stunning—and the gracious hospitality made it even more memorable.
After that initial visit, we were invited back for a whisky tasting hosted by Tony himself. As a self-taught aficionado, I saw it as a wonderful chance to deepen my understanding of Scotch traditions. But the experience far exceeded expectations. It wasn’t just a whisky lover’s dream—it was two captivating hours filled with lore, laughter, and insight from a true and passionate connoisseur.
Each whisky had its own story, introducing us to unfamiliar labels alongside comforting classics. The spirit of discovery was intoxicating in the best way. The atmosphere was relaxed and inclusive, encouraging everyone to ask questions freely. No matter one’s level of knowledge, the focus was on curiosity and appreciation rather than expertise or hierarchy.
The tasting room itself was magnificent, showcasing hundreds of bottles from every origin and budget. After the session, we were offered the chance to purchase bottles and received complimentary tasting glasses to take home.
