visited the bar , while we where waiting on the a table across the the road on the way from the glass house. the bar was quiet , 5 members of staff on . waited 20 min to get served. eventually got served , got one pint of extra cold Guinness and a wine. lovely cousy bar , lovely pint of guinness was worth the wait as it was my first drink , on a what i hoped was a lovely date night with my wife . after a hectic weeks work. we decided to get another drink, as the bar was nice and relaxed. when i walked up to the bar, a young lady caught me by surprise , by saying sorry we can't serve you any more drink. i ask why !! she said i had to much to drink i explained that was my first pint how can i by drunk. i asked for the manager, who agreed i wasn't drunk but had to back up his staff. aping questioning the waitress said when i came to the bar i was slurring my words. talk about giving some one a complex. i asked for there names to make a formal complaint. he also said there's no way you can prove it's your first pint waw just wae the manager said we don't need to give me there names or head office number or address as a business owner of over 40 staff i'm confused and shocked at the attitude and slander giving . surely in this day and agribusiness want business thanks for...
Read moreMet up with family at the Theatre Royal Bar as it’s my mothers favourite when she comes down from the bowels of Aberdeenshire to watch a show at the Playhouse(Riverdance this time) Very friendly and welcoming venue with a marvellous traditional elegance and a limited but decent beer selection from real ales to cScottish Cooncil Juice. We decided to eat here after my sister spotted a sign advertising Sunday carvery so the 6 of us sat down to 5 Roast Beef Carvery dinners and 1 burger for my daftest son 🙏. No complaints, good portion size, very very tasty, roast beef was tasty, succulent and plentiful, the veg were delicious. One of the best carvery dinners I’ve ever had. High praise where it’s fully deserved. I thought I was full but this fat guy was intrigued by the Neapolitan Cheesecake! Gave it a go and it was what it said, brought back childhood memories of ice cream at my granny’s. We were made welcome and enjoyed the atmosphere so stayed on for a few more drinks before departing and agreeing to meet up again at the same venue. High praise from me, I’ll be back and I’ll be taking old and young generations of my family with...
Read moreI can't recommend a visit to this place more. The staff upon entering were very polite and made us feel welcome. As tourists we had some questions and all the staff were able to advise and help. So a massive thank you to them all. But that's not the best bit!!! THE FOOD!!! it was fantastic, I kid you not we sat initially just to have some drinks and saw some of the starters coming out and thought they were the mains. We asked a member of staff as we perused the menu we had, for it to be confirmed they were starters. Once we had eaten out way through a nachos starter we ordered some more drinks, of which there is a good choice, and ordered our mains. Suffice to say we were both glad our hotel was a short walk away as we were stuffed. We have both travelled far and wide across the globe and eaten at some fantastic restaurants but this place ranks as one of the best. If you are visiting Edinburgh you...
