I am not from the neighbourhood and this place was recommended by a lovely lady at a local salon.
I was extremely disappointed..This place would be lovely (indeed the environment is pleasant and by the sea, albeit a bit more heating would be appreciated). It's just the vibe that is not right.
The gentleman at the entrance kindly tried to find me a table and then just uttered the words "one hour and a half". Were they doing me a favour? Was this Nobu on Park Lane? So sorry for bringing my custom here for a quick coffee, mate. Even if you do decide to have a timing for your tables, there are a million more corteous ways to inform the customer. This is not a prison cell.
The menu itself is OK but not splendid (no full Scottish, no full breakfast at all, only a bunch of fancy-sounding sanwiches and egg selection).
The coffees are OVERPRICED. This is the second small place I find in Edinburgh by the sea that serves overpriced coffee. 3.30 for a flat white is crazy, guys.
What I would have appreciated is for service to match the staff's own view of the place. If they believe they are so precious that they have to time tables and serve overpriced coffees, at least coming by the table once in a while to ask if everything is OK would be the bare minimum. I sincerely felt I wasn't that much welcome.
The cherry on the cake was when I visited the restroom and came back and was looking for something in my coat and I WAS BROUGHT THE BILL WITHOUT ASKING. Who told you that I'm leaving? Why are you guys so overzealous?
Overall, sadly just another cafe' in Edinburgh that could do much better. I hope the staff take the bad reviews as an...

I telephoned Porto & Fi and asked if I could have a table for one at 11am today. I was very pleased to be offered a table at 11.15am so that I could enjoy a birthday breakfast/ brunch.
Imagine my dismay , when I arrived at the restaurant, the waitress told me that I had to vacate the table within 40 minutes. I pointed out that this requirement was not mentioned to me when I made the reservation and if it had been I would not have accepted the table. I also mentioned that I had incurred a taxi fare to visit the restaurant. The waitress told me that they had another booking in forty minutes' time. She was neither apologetic nor embarrassed by what she was saying and shrugged her shoulders when I complained that this 'fait accompli' was taking my custom for granted.
Before I left without dining, I spoke to the manager. The manager tried to justify the unacceptable situation by saying that the situation wrought on me was owing to Covid 19 "restrictions." So, I approached a group of six ladies who were seated at a table for six just before me. I politely enquired, "Ladies, were you told when you made your booking, or before you were seated at the table, that you must be out of here in forty minutes because of Covid 19 restrictions or for any other reason."
These ladies all confirmed that this was not the case and looked appalled at the treatment meted out to me. The risk of my transmitting Covid 19 to any one else by being in the restaurant longer than forty minutes is arrant nonsense.
I am satisfied that this is a case of unvarnished money...
Read moreServed reheated souffle and a microwaved quiche. Stifled dining experience. Unsure if we hit the restaurant on a bad day or if this is the norm, but would not return.
*In response to the owner's rather misjudged response below. We made it clear that the meal was unsatisfactory to our waitress. Furthermore, to clarify, your menu did not specify the soufflé was twice baked and thus why I asked the question and highlighted to the waitress that the soufflé was not appetising. I have also noted that you have not referred to the quiche being reheated in the microwave in your response (a cooking method that you also failed to mention on your menu). When you reheat a quiche in a microwave it results in the fats leaking from the quiche. Thus creating a congealed appearance, soggy base and greasy unappetising experience for your patron. Perhaps a reflection on how your cooking processes could be enhanced would be a better use of your time rather than...
