Heriott Park Guesthouse — Hotel in City of Edinburgh

I am writing this review from the room in which I am staying, because I must get this out of my system before I could go explore the city. I would have given this 0/5 if I could.

My friend and I had made a reservation at this guesthouse beforehand and we arrived at 7am to see if we could leave our bags with the staff and to inquire about check-in later in the day. We were told that our room was not ready, and that we could come back at 11am. We replied okay and left.

We returned to the guesthouse at around 6pm, and was greeted by the extremely angry male staff who attended to us earlier this morning. He demanded why we had promised to come back at "11am on the dot" and did not show up, causing a huge disruption in the staffing of the guesthouse. I apologized right away saying that we did not know when he said "come back at 11am and your room will be ready" it actually meant "come back at 11 on the dot or we'll scream like maniacs in your faces as our welcoming". He insisted that we "promised" him we would come back at 11am but did not keep our promise. We apologized but insisted that we did not understand him fully that he had meant 11am sharp. He did not listen but kept screaming in our faces. He then left us with another male staff who screamed the same things in our faces again, adding that in order to wait for us, he had to forgo walking his dog, going to the shop, and other chores. Anyhow, he ended up being able to walk the dog. We apologized yet again, and explained that we really had no idea as this kind of situation had never happened to either of us in our whole life. He simply told us that we were very rude to be late.

Just to clarify, the guesthouse has my UK number, and they would have had every right to call me. We reminded them that we understood why they were mad and we already apologized to both staffs, yet we were paying customers, and such a welcoming was appalling. We told them that we were sorry for being late/rude, but we also would like an apology for being screamed at by 2 men for 15 minutes. They displayed zero sense of common courtesy until we informed him that we would have to share this horrendous experience online, and the 2nd male staff immediately became apologetic and used the word "sorry" 3 times.

Please, whoever is reading this, do yourself a favor and avoid this terrible guesthouse.

P.S. Unattended trash on the floor and yellowish stains...

Outside of the building and inside looks lovely.I have use this Guest House with my partner and 2 years old daughter for couple nights.The reason for my 2 star feedback the workers(Manager the only one looked more reasonable.Who keeps heating on during warm day and turns off for eaving.After that I have completed about that my room being freezing like ace due to cold nights and windows sill is very poor I received an answer that is no possible to have cold room.second night the same Women from Room cleaning service has not clean properly dust left on top cupboard and frames(Fast&poor)after explaing that my daughter has health problems with skin,Breakfast like every Scottish breakfasts can't moan about also would like to say that some staff English level is not understandable which lead to communication issue.Apart from that...

Stayed here last night after doing the coast and cycles route from Newcastle. It was OK and met my basic needs. I had a twin room (room 10) which was clean and tidy but the window only had one curtain which didn't cover the window. The towels and bedding were clean. The en-suite was clean. The breakfast was nice. Continental and cooked which. Was delivered freshly cooked and hot.

I would say however there were two staff who seemed very inexperienced, my friend ordered beans on toast and and a pot of tea. They delivered beans and poached egg on toast with no tea. She sent it back and reiterated what she asked for, only for a third person to clarify the order. It's not a big deal as I understand these things happen but I thought it's worth mentioning.
