Rishi's has quickly become my favourite Indian restaurant to visit for dinner. I must start booking as it's always pleasantly busy, although I've never seen it annoyingly crowded.
I'm working my way through the evening menu and am yet to sample the lunch tapas. Rishi's is so good I tend to eat through three courses.
Starters are delicious and generous. I recommend the chilli chicken. If you're in a date, while Rishi's isn't that cosy, the presentation of the starter course will surely impress. Actually, v that's only true if I know anything about dating and I'm not sure I do. The pictures here will validate my suggestions.
Main courses are delicious and there's a good mix of British favourites and more authentic dishes to pick from. These will either come in bowls to transfer food from or, if appropriate, plated nicely.
Dessert is delicious but the smallest section of choices. Here we get access to a few Indian classics or ice cream.
The food is value for money. This would be true if Rishi's was merely good. As the food is better than that, you'll struggle to spend your money more cleverly in any other Indian.
Staff are friendly, fast and not prone to mistakes.
This is a glowing review.
[Update: January 23 - they invested in a lovely new outdoor area and I'm waiting for the summer to test it. Inside remains welcome, clean, spacious and full...
Read more10/10, I recommend this to everybody who loves great hospitality and even better food. We live locally; going here is one of our favourite treats. There are plenty of average and not-so-good restaurants in Edinburgh - let it be known, this is NOT one of them. It opened during the lockdown era without much announcement, so we weren’t expecting anything much (it didn’t open with any of that cringey local newspaper-driven fanfare, for example, unlike many an overrated restaurant!). It simply appeared on the scene, and I hope (and expect) it will never disappear! The food really is very good. We always leave rather, shall-we-say, “full” - not because the food is heavy or anything, but because our eyes are bigger than our stomachs so that we order beyond our not-insignificant eating capacities (still, we always finish everything). The service is exceptional, too: warm, efficient, authentic, hospitable, attentive, personalised, relaxed, convivial. Talk about atmosphere. Also, Raj is the man - a great waiter and an even better gentleman! Naturally we’ve tried a lot of Indian in our short lives, in various countries, but even so this place is special. And I LOVE what they’ve done with the interior. I wish them all the best, and look forward to trying their lunch menu on...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic! From the moment we booked to the moment we left. We called up last minute for a booking and although a table wasn't available the lady I spoke with said she would try and get us a table for a little later. When we arrived the same person Priya greeted us and made us feel so welcome.
The food we ordered was exceptional, everything we ordered surpassed our expectations. The masala dosa was the best I have had 😋. My husband loved the gajar ka halwa. The kids menu was very good.
All the staff were amazing, so friendly and great with my 3 kids. Priya was great, her attention to detail was excellent.
We are not from Edinburgh and were just visiting. We liked it here so much we came the next day for lunch!
Prices are very reasonable and the ambience of the restaurant is lovely.
Not sure if Rishis is part of a chain. We have been to the one in Glasgow and Aberdeen, but have to say this one is in a league of their own.
Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed!
Hope to return next time we are...
