There are a lot of things this place has going for it: open late, excellent food, amazing whiskey selection, friendly bartenders, nice craft beer variety, cool locals, warm and cosy interior, sleek dockside patio. I don't think that anybody looking for a solid traditional Scottish freehouse could complain about this spot.
We ended up here multiple times during our stay, partly because they have the best opening hours and partly because our first visit was so pleasant and welcoming. And reasonably priced considering the quality.
I strongly suggest trying one of their whiskey flights if you're like me and are not exactly a pro but like scotch enough and are curious about exploring more flavours and types. I was incredibly pleased with their local whiskey flight. They also have a great selection of gins, including both craft and unique top shelf Scottish ones.
The place can get positively rammed on a good night, especially when food is still being served. But we always managed to find a free table for two.
Fish and chips were some of the best I've had in the UK at any pub. Really flavourful and expertly cooked. The mussels were also really nicely done. The star was the scallops though!
What I really liked were the vibes in the bar section. Proper pub feel. Everyone in high spirits just enjoying their time, with staff laughing and customers having a good time. It brought back memories of some small sailor's pubs I've been to on more remote islands. Good times. Would gladly...
Read moreLike their city location, this is a truly special experience. I love how it's tangibly different than their "inland" pub and has a very different menu that emphasizes seafood (naturally). A small bar area and restaurant as you walk up (an old ferry building) but the outdoor seating and beer garden are massive and extend into another building. The seating along the small footbridge is prime on a beautiful day. You can easily order by QR code at the tables and they bring your food and drink. I decided to stay inside and had a tasty pint of Landlord to pair with some fresh and delicious local oysters. Friendly bartenders and hardworking servers who make the experience even better. The live fire going inside and massive whiskey selection were the icing on the cake. Leith is a lovely area that will only get better and this is an anchor of the neighborhood. Would stop by weekly if...
Read moreGrabbed Sunday lunch at Teuchters on the way out of Edinburgh on vacation recently, and I’m so glad that I did! What a really cool spot right along the water. It definitely has that “No frills” pub-feel to it, as you walk in the front door to the bar. But move on to the back of the restaurant and find cozy dining rooms and a waterside patio.
They have GLUTEN FREE fish and chips!! This was seriously the only place we had f&c during our two week long trip to Scotland and it they were awesome. Looking around it seems like their mug meals were very popular, but we were very hungry so opted for the ground beef chili nachos in addition to the fish and chips.
Very generous portions and everything tasted wonderful. Nice people working here too - be advised, you have to order everything at the bar. Wish we could have come back and drank here... oh well, there’s...
