We chanced our luck and went here for lunch without reservation. It was busy so we had to wait for a table. The gent told us that it would be 10/15 mins or maybe slightly longer for a table to be available. It ended being closer to the 25 min mark. The pub itself was quite quirky with lots of things going on. I got a mad hatter vibe. The toilets were covered in comic strips which I thought was quite cool. Whilst waiting on a table we sat at the bar. The woman on the bar could’ve been a bit more welcoming, she was task oriented and I understand she was maybe busy but it isn’t difficult to crack a smile. All the other staff were friendly and helpful. We were seated for our meal around the back. Menus were inserted into a old magazine which was funny. They had boardgames which was a nice tough. I got gubbed at dobble whilst waiting for our food. Speaking of food, I was stuck between the mac and cheese and peking pork rosey open flatbread. The server was very helpful and said he could do a smaller portion of the mac and have it as a side. I was immediately sold. My wife went for the meaty mcleith burger. Firstly the peking pork was really nice. I expected a bigger portion but it was nice with beautiful flavours. The mac and cheese was one of the favourites but it wasn’t mine. For me it was a bit too watery at the bottom and I didn’t actually enjoy the flavour that much. My wife enjoyed her burger and she couldn’t really fault it apart from the price as it was quite pricey. I got a coconut cream pudding for dessert and it was pretty good. Overall, good food for pub standards. Love the vibe of this place.

I was there for lunch and I couldn't turn down the guest ale, that was a delight, but food was my main goal. I was not disappointed. There is quite a selection of vegetarian and vegan options that were not at all dull usual stuffed pepper afterthoughts. I find this a good sign. Indeed everything on the menu fit the quirky ethos of the place whilst still sounding impressive. I eventually decided upon the Leith al' eggs. A wonderful take on a scotch egg, wrapped in haggis and pork sausage served warm and a touch runny with the yolk. Served with skin on double dipped chips, baked beans and a sweet pickle preserve. The preserve was the perfect accompaniment to the haggis wrapped egg lifting the flavour of the mixed sausage and haggis to superb highs. The twice dipped chips were a little more akin to American fries but tasty nonetheless. I would have personally preferred my egg yolk a little more runny, it was certainly more hard boiled, but that's a minor personal preference. What was attempted was a great success. I, unfortunately, didn't have enough time to stick around for a dessert as both the polenta and six layered chocolate cake sounded epic. Either way, I'm sure to return and have that cake some day soon. Until then I'll just have to dream about the possibilities. If you find yourself at the shore, this is definitely a place to try.

GREAT AND LIVELY ATMOSPHERE ALONG WITH SOME GOOD FOOD Was able to book a table for 3 people for 8pm on a Tuesday, on the same day with no problems. All the servers were super nice and welcoming. Service is quick and they're considerate enough to give a detailed run down of the menu when I asked. When I go back I'm definitely ordering the Mac and cheese starter. The cheese sauce was perfect, packed with flavour and not to heavy which makes all the difference for me. The Kraken Tacos were really good as well. I think I'd hold off on ordering then again due to the price (and just order more Mac and cheese). But the flavours of the squid and pesto worked really well together. I got the burger for mains and it was a good filling burger. The chips were awesome though. They're the great crispy kind of chips. Would definitely recommend going here for a great pub visit!

Been here a few times and have always enjoyed the food and thought the service was fantastic, unfortunately last Saturday it was not. Table booked at 12:30 ordered drinks a soup and 2 big yin breakfasts. First round of drinks arrived quickly, no sign of food after they were done, so another round of drinks ordered. My husbands pint arrived, mines never. Said to the waiter we’d ordered a g&t he said it was “just coming” 10 min later it arrived. It was obviously forgotten about, these things happen. Food still hasn’t arrived it’s now 1pm. Waitress appears, her fault never put the order in at kitchen and she apologies. Again these things happen, she was apologetic and took a round of drinks off the bill. Then at around 1:25, 2 breakfast and the soup arrived. How can someone be expected to eat hot soup and a breakfast at the same time? Soup goes cold couldn’t eat everything at once. Mentioned it to the waitress and she took it off the bill. She then cleared the plates and said “I assume you want the bill?” she said this as she was walking off not even giving us a chance to respond and was quite frankly rude. No offer of dessert or other drinks. Bill arrived and she confirmed the soup and the drinks had been deducted in a rude manner. We paid and left,...
