Stumbled across this bar/bistro. Food that is trying hard to be good. Prices are fair. Staff are hard working and friendly. The fruit and nut salad was a variation on a French classic: Hot Goat's Cheese salad. The cheese and bacon wasn't warm, wasn't meant to be. The lettuce leaves lacked a good vinaigrette to marry the flavours of the strawberries, walnuts, cheese and bacon. Now for the Haggis, tatties and neeps. Great presentation and loved the deep fried Swede, which intensified it's flavour. A great idea. The Haggis was fine. The potato was a peppery disaster. The amount of pepper killed the dish. I guessed it was served with a whisky sauce, but the huge quantity of pepper in the potato bulldozered through every single taste bud on my tongue. Accident in the kitchen? Hope so. The Big Story burger was big and good. Enjoyed the Sticky toffee pudding without it knocking the ball out of the park. Every one is trying really hard to make this place work. They must have other dishes that work as amongst the tourists there were regulars there. Good choice of beers and cocktails.

Booked a table for 4 at 7pm & arrived to an almost full bar. Shown to our table, at the far end from the entrance. When our drinks arrived I asked & was assured that the air conditioning fan speed could & would be reduced! We selected our choices of food from the menu & within reasonable time, was delivered. My expected hot skillet of fajitas unfortunately not 'sizzling', instantly lost any heat, due to being seated directly under the extremely cold AC vent positioned above my head! The wife's chicken, haggis & veg got the same cold treatment, which she also had no pleasure in eating. We realise the need for air circulation is paramount, especially in these Covid times but our evening enjoyment was ruined by sitting in near freezing cold conditions! We were eventually offered & accepted a 20% discount, though this was not the intension of our complaint. Overall nice place, good atmosphere & pleasant staff, but poor seating plan - Would visit again, though I'd specify a warmer area to sit, when booking & quite possibly add a few stars to the review!

I never thought anyone could screw up deep friend fish so much. It was seriously the worst fish and chips I have ever been served. The skin was unusually yellow and soggy. It had absolutely no crunch to it. The fries on the other hand were very crunchy, but unfortunately not an ounce of flavor. In fact the pieces were to small I can only assume I was given what was left over in the bottom of the bag. I assume bag because they definitely were not made fresh. I also ordered the tomato soup. Well they say tomato soup, but I would be inclined to call it gazpacho. Soup should not be served so cold. And the bread served with it was unusually charred. My mate ordered the steak pie. It was served in a bowl with a roll on top. Not sure what makes that a pie to be honest. It tasted ok, but then again so does a can of progresso beef soup. I can go on and on, but I’ll leave it there. The only reason they I won’t give them on star is because the staff was very helpful and kind.

Me and my husband had a night away to Edinburgh and stayed at the W Edinburgh hotel. This pub was just across the road so we went in for a few drinks and watch the football. Our first order was a vodka and Malibu my husband was told they didn’t have Malibu but said they would give him something else and I wouldn’t know the difference. Whatever was made instead was nothing like Malibu and so bad I called a waitress over and told her it was vile and couldn’t drink it so asked if I could have a peach snaps and lemonade instead. With no apologies or niceness about her she told me I would need to wait as she was busy just now then when she did come back banged the new drink on the table and snatched away the other, it was so rude! A little later my phone was running out of charge so a nice blonde haired girl said I could charge behind the bar. About 30 mins later I approached the bar to get it back and was told by a different girl to keep away as it was a non service area, I explained I just wanted my phone back as a girl had taken to charge and she shouted after me ‘well what kind of phone!?!’ I said it was an iPhone and she gave the dirtiest look and said ‘that doesn’t help!’ I said it was in a black and pink case and got it back. Where we were sat was right under an air conditioning unit it and we were absolutely froze. We asked a girl if she could turn it off or up a little to and she responded ‘I don’t know’ and my husband said ‘well could you try find out! She then walked away and ignored our request. After our drinks we left. The whole vibe felt odd. All the staff laughing and joking with one another and it seemed to be the customers that were intruders and ignored when at the bar. Most of the people around the bar were staff that had came off shift or their friends. Really lovely little pub with great live music but the staff lets it down completely. If I were the manager I would definitely consider a change of staff! The 2x girls who were rude both had shoulder length brown hair. I assume it was the fact we complained about the Malibu because from that moment it all changed. I wouldn’t return...

Popped in with intentions of having a few birthday drinks with my daughter. Was around 4pm Thurs 11th May we came in, was empty. Got a seat looked at drinks menu and decided what we were having, sat a while with no one approaching us, so I went to bar and all staff were standing chatting in corner. I asked a girl with long white/blond hair for 2 strawberry daiquiris slushy, she had a face like it would crack if she tried to smile, no hello, or friendly attitude, got the drink and asked to be put on a tab. Then sat down and had the drink, decided after that to pay and leave. Approached bar and a male dark curly hair was there, said wanted to pay bill, not nice nature or friendly, so he gave me card machine I tapped it and he said it’s not worked u will have to put ur card in, done this twice as it was saying pin wrong, he then said I will have to put it through again. But I noticed when I pressed the 2 on card machine both times it didn’t register so I told him and he got another card machine and it then worked. No apologies given. While I was doing this he disappeared and I saw it had worked and walked away from bar. Got our bags and left. Horrible atmosphere and wasn’t enjoyable one bit. Was meant to be a nice day out celebrating but certainly...
