Mathew was amazing!! Yes you have to wait sometimes for a table; but it’s ALWAYS worth it, and the line has always moved quick enough for me, as long as you’ve got your phone or someone fun to talk to. I remember once there was 6 other “groups” waiting for a table before me; and it only took 11 minutes. Even with that I didn’t feel rushed in my meal once I was seated. I eat here anytime the budget allows; but it’s great value for money. If you only get a main and no sides or drinks you always feel you’ve paid a fair price, had a great meal, and a lovely time. Thanks again to my server Mathew, who has served me many times, always with a smile and understanding of my needs (extra tissues to catch my hot chilli drips, or extra drinks through the course of the meal) I’ve always thought Leith street MakiRamen was the best; but the recent news of the closure of some of the branches further out reminds me how lucky we are to have this on our door step. 10/10 I know I’ll be back; because always come back. My favourite :: he’ll ramen, chicken teriyaki, pumpkins Katsu or the pumpkin croquette. Takoyaki and black garlic tonkotsu (ask for chilli oil if you need a kick)

Maki & Ramen in Edinburgh is an absolute gem when it comes to satisfying your craving for a hot and comforting bowl of ramen. After a long day exploring the city, my experience at this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. Despite it being a weekend, we were promptly seated, which immediately set a positive tone for the evening. The attentive and friendly staff made us feel welcomed and attended to throughout our visit. The portion sizes at Maki & Ramen are incredibly generous. The noodle to meat to soup ratio was on pointI opted for the Hell Ramen, and it was a flavor explosion that left me thoroughly impressed. The rich and savory broth, combined with the perfectly cooked noodles and the accompanying toppings, created a bowl of ramen that was nothing short of heavenly. To complement our ramen, we decided to indulge in some Gyoza and Karage, and they were both mouthwateringly delicious. The Gyoza had a crispy and flavorful exterior, with a juicy and well-seasoned filling that was simply delightful. Whether you're a ramen aficionado or simply looking for a comforting meal, Maki & Ramen is sure to exceed your expectations.

Absolutely great fan of Maki Ramen. I come to this Maki Ramen on Leith Street a lot. Not only because I freaking love their ramen, but also because they’ve got amazing service here. The staff treat you like a friend and they are very attentive service wise. Favourite two ramen are STEAK TATAKI RAMEN and HELL RAMEN. They are both spicy, but the eh are SUPER good. Steak Ramen has coconut cream in it which gives it a slightly more refreshing taste and less spicy than Hell Ramen, but if you like something creamy, savoury, and full of umami of pork bone, go for Hell Ramen!! Pumpkin croquettes, pork gyoza, and spicy teriyaki chicken are all heaven, they are totally my go-to options for sides. Shame that i don’t have such a big appetite, otherwise i will order all three at once. (But I guess this is better for my wallet) Note that this restaurant don’t take any reservations, neither do they do sushi, so if you are in this part of the town and want sushi, go to SJQ, another cute branch of theirs, although I myself vibe more with Leith Street. Sometimes they could be super busy, so if you plan to visit, come in advance.

The food is good, but I have never been treated soo bad in my life by the (chubby) woman (it’s just a reference so you know when you see her to ask for someone else) I asked for tea, she forgot twice but didn’t mind I wasn’t feeling great during the meal so I asked for a takeaway box to eat it at home as I left the whole plate, she brought the takeaway box (tiny) and my friend kindly asked if they could do it bc we were going to drop all the liquid from the ramen I am not an expert with a tiny spoon and chopsticks to put it in the container by my own specially felling unwell and very dizzy I was trying to explain it nicely to the waiter and before In the middle of me explaining it she jumped in from the other side shouted rudely “we can’t, we are not allowed to put your food for you” in a super rude and loud tone (at least talk nice to people, avoiding putting faces and bad tones, she shouldn’t pay her bad day with customers) she left straight after I said it was fine and went to try and force my self to eat even tho I didn’t feel well, only because i was going to pay for it and I hate wasting food. NOT EVEN 2 min after she brings the bill WITHOUT ASKING FOR IT while I was eating (i literally had the chicken in my mouth) and say how are you paying? THAT’S ALL NOT even a “here is the bill” Or a “did you finish?”or “Would you like dessert or the bill?”. It’s genuinely unbelievable all me and my friends were so discontent (they all wanted dessert but by the way we were treated we paid I DID NOT EAT MY plate as I felt bad and mistreated by the WORST waitress you can imagine and left) I genuinely have no words to describe how bad the her service was. I genuinely think she needs to get fired. Kind regards (not for her tho). This is also the first time I have ever complained in a restaurant about anything but she is...

The food was delicious but that is where the good things ended.

  1. the staff seemed desperate to get customers out so they can leave bang on 10 o clock. Is it normal for staff to be sweeping the floor whilst people are eating food ?

  2. we were made to pay the bill WHILST eating our food. Quite frankly this is just rude. You can’t wait 5 minutes until we are finished before taking payment ?

  3. it’s ridiculous that this rushed and inconsiderate service includes a service charge as standard. No mention of it - bad practise.

Another minor point, but the music was so loud in the kitchen that it was louder than the music in the front. Have you tried listening to two songs at once whilst eating ? It’s disorientating and was not a pleasant eating experience. Just one of those annoying things I wouldn’t expect the staff there to even think about as they are not focussed on the customer.

The place feels like it’s being run by several teenagers who can’t wait to leave the premises bang on closing time. Surely you can do better than this. I won’t be returning to this Maki & Ramen.

I am aware I came to get a table at 9:10pm, but that is more than...
