This is not a cafe, it is a bistro, Greek, middle eastern influenced menu. Blew me away. Popped in with a hungry 14 yr old (who is 6 ft 1, and happens to be a foodie) and a more finicky 9 yr old. Wasn't sure what we'd find. Told the owner-cook-server gentlemen what we were seeking; he made recommendation for my older son-was a perfect huge saucy but light lamb shank (enormous, Greek Town in Chicago nor Tarpon Springs couldn't compete with the care taken), delicious veggies and other tastes surrounded it. My younger wasn't liking the menu, so the chef created something delish-simple fresh grilled chicken strips atop a delicious crusty bread soaked in a tomato base and feta crumbles. ??? Picky 9 yr old loved it. (Jan 2015). Price was super modest cafe-like. I had a great simple greek salad. And the whole time ppl came in to give cheek-cheek kissed to the owner/chef...he's like the Zohan of foodies. Great vibe and a find as far as food, tho many appear to...
Read moreRichmond Cafe is my favorite comfort cafe nearby the University of Edinburgh campus. They are sometimes busy for very good reason, the coffee is some of the best in town and the food is also great. They server Turkish classics as well as other British foods. My favorite dish is the chicken schnitzel which is super filling and flavorful, fried chicken cutlet with a creamy mushroom sauce. I also love getting their baklava with a coffee.
They have a beautiful family and dog friendly environment, free Wi-Fi and affordable prices. There are also big natural light windows that can be used to enjoy a nice day or people watch while you stay. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, and will let you into their cafe with open arms and smile when they see you outside if you become a regular, even if you don’t come in. Thank you Richmond Cafe for being the star of the main campus area of Edinburgh and one of the best...
Read moreWas here for a late lunch with my partner on a Sunday. The restaurant/café has a strong local reputation. Some outdoor seating available, the interior seemed well decorated but there are already flying insects about in Spring.
Food was nice. I liked the creamy broccoli pasta that I had.
My partner really enjoyed their chicken kabab which came with (a not-at-all thick) tzatziki sauce.
The smoothies they offer were nice too. I'm not sure if they're made from scratch onsite, but it was frozen, mixed, then served to you. Great texture.
A do-not-miss here is their Thessalonikan pie. They don't make a big deal about it on the menu, but.. I'm not telling you. Definitely get it if you're after something Greek and sweet.
Service was friendly and staff were keen to explain some of the menu items. The only thing was that I had to ask for an itemised bill which they were...
