The Counting House — Attraction in City of Edinburgh

A really lovely venue… and appalling service / a total waste of time trying to book with them.

We were recommended the venue by my sister so we made contact and our date was available – perfect, as I was travelling home and we could come and visit / look around. We met with Conor (the Manager) on 30th April and the visit was really positive – we went through our plans with him and everything was do-able. We left feeling very upbeat, with Conor saying he’d get back to us with a plan and more information on a recommended ceilidh band…

A month later, I hadn’t heard anything so I dropped Brian (the Ops Manager) a quick e-mail to confirm we were still really keen and asking for a progress update. He came back quickly asking if we could arrange a phone call and as we were in transit back to Australia by this point, I e-mailed him all the details that we’d discussed with Conor, and said I’d be home and able to chat in a couple of days.

Once I was back, I then called and left a voicemail, and sent on a quick e-mail offering any information they still needed so that we could get things locked in / pay a deposit… and I let them know we could set up a phone call if that was easier, too. More radio silence…

Almost 3 weeks later (so almost 2 months after we met), Conor finally e-mailed me back, laying out what we’d originally discussed, and asking for confirmation of our meal choices so Brian could quote for us. The very next day I e-mailed on all of our meal choices and confirmed that we were really keen to book things in… and again, heard nothing.

After another 2 weeks, as I hadn’t heard anything at all, I e-mailed again to check in and see how things were going. Again, I explained that we were really keen to lock things in so that we could send out invitations… and got absolutely no response.

So here we are now… After another 2 weeks with no response whatsoever, we’ve given up and booked another venue. Less central, considerably more expensive but they’ve been an absolute pleasure to work with and reassuringly responsive and onto it (exactly what you’d expect and want from an events venue!)

I’ve emailed Brian and Conor to let them know and – surprise surprise – have heard nothing back. The venue's lovely... and after my experience with them, I wouldn’t...

We had our wedding reception here and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The venue was beautifully set up and so well-organised from start to finish. Keira, the supervisor on the night, was absolutely fantastic – friendly, efficient, and made sure everything ran smoothly.

We loved that we could use the speakers for our own Spotify playlists, which made the evening feel really personal. The team were so helpful with the planning and decorations, making the whole process stress-free.

The food was incredible – we had so many compliments from our guests about how delicious everything was! Every member of the team was lovely, professional, and accommodating.

Spent Hogmanay night there. Bought tickets (£33 p/person) for a Ceilidh with Haggis Chasers band. Total disaster. The hall was so overcrowded. We arrived at the venue to discover there was no space for our group to sit at a table.The bar staff were quite freely swearing in front of the customers and the toilets left much to be desired and were not maintained at all. Some of the guests on that evening were using the toilets to partake in questionable behaviour and there was no one questioning there behaviour or indeed who entered the venue whether they had...
