Review of Cafe Two Shades
Food:
I had the veggie breakfast, which I thought tasted quite nice. Smaller portion size compared to local cafes. The mushroom were inedible as they didn’t seemed cooked.
My partner had a cheese and ham panini which was very plain, poorly toasted and with low quality ham. For some reason they added 3 cucumbers on the plate.
Waiting time
For such a small order we had to wait over 30 minutes for it. They also forgot the drinks but was kind enough to bring them over when requested. We went near lunch time so we expected a slightly longer wait but was disappointed after waiting so long.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere was very pretty. It was open aired and had a nice theme to the place. Was mainly quiet and nicely placed tables.
Staff
Staff seemed quite nervous but I believe this was due to new staffing. No real interactions, weren’t particularly friendly but no poor interactions.
Pricing
Pricing compared to in the area is lower than average, although in comparison I’ve had better food for less of the price. Still the pricing is budget friendly.
Overall review
My overall review from the place is 2/5. I would rate this cafe slightly below average. Although I still enjoyed...
Read moreOur experience of Cafe Two Shades during a recent visit was mixed. We ordered drinks, lunch and a dessert and sat in the cafe.
On arrival, the venue was quiet although a steady stream of customers entered while we waited for our food and at times it became quite busy.
Pros: The paninis (one tuna and one sausage melt) and the chips were tasty The coffee was alright The staff were friendly and hard working There was plenty to choose on the menu
Cons: The service was unconventional as our order arrived at the table in stages. First the chips arrived - the sandwiches were brought to the table about five minutes later - finally, our drinks came out towards the end of our meal.
It was difficult explaining what we wanted to order to one of the waitresses as English was not her first language.
Our desserts were poor: The carrot cake was cold at the bottom with too much toffee sauce poured over the top. The profiteroles were rock hard and barely edible.
Unfortunately, the cost of this meal was almost £35 which seemed expensive for...
Read moreI happened to visit this comfy yet appealing eatery in the heart of Colchester town. I sat on the table just next to the two young ladies. We started talking about how we have common food interests in both countries as I am from KARACHI, Pakistan and they are from Pune, India. They were humble and to my surprise, they were the owners of the cafe. Anyways back to the review. I tried Dabeli it was scrumptious. Samosa chat is recommended because of its taste and I digested everything so easily. They must be using some good oil. I also tried India's most popular masala maggie and I liked it too. Kashmiri tea was good too. For My taste buds, it was a little bit more milkier than I usually drink. But everything was good overall. Next time I am gonna try their chicken(halal) options. They do serve halal that's why I am more delighted. Now this place is going to be my go-to place. Because of taste of course.
This review is especially for Pratima and Mohini (two young ladies) owners of CAFE TWO SHADES, COLCHESTER, ESSEX.
