Today I was pleasantly surprised by the former PostOffice which is now called @Eleven. On entering its actually deceiving how big it truly is, not only is there a cute gift ideas shop but , there is a small boulangerie, offering #baguettes #cheese #honey #cotswold sauces and different #cheeses and #preserves, my favourite would be the #pickled pears and #pickled walnuts. There are many handcrafted items made by local guild workers. Such as #pottery #glassware #feltwork, #Handmade #hats and #silkscreenedscarves, as well as a variety of #stationary and some lovely items including a variety of souvenirs of #ArlingtonRow. I also popped into their #gallery and #coffeeshop, they have a wide selection of pastries and offered #hot and #cold drinks. There is also a terrace which is bookable. But I didn’t get to see that, what I did see was lots of staff smiling and eager to make this store a success. Rosie was very helpful showing me the varieties of cheeses, pasta dishes and sausages produced locally, and then went on to show me some of the wonderful gift ideas. It would be a great place to shop for Christmas. It was also nice to meet the owner Ann, who knows the importance of supporting #local #crafts and supporting The #Gloucestershire #Guild. Amii, Rosie, Luca, Dom, Kiera, Alistair and Ann are all #SconeAsInGone too. Chloe, Eddie and Eduard not. However; what they all were was extremely #friendly and #eager to show their #wares.
I almost forgot, the #mangosorbet was definitely as #delicious as told. It was lovely sitting on the wall eating my sorbet as I watched all the tourists take in this beautiful #nationaltrust gem. #ArlingtonRow. Website:...
Read moreWe arrived in Bibury around midday – right near where we parked, we spotted this cosy-looking restaurant and decided to pop in.
As soon as we got to the entrance, a friendly waiter greeted us. The menu was quite simple, not a huge selection, but the salads looked fresh and appetising.
Roasted Squash Salad – What looked like a simple salad turned out to be packed with flavour and texture. It had roasted squash, raisins, walnuts, kale, pumpkin seeds, couscous… every bite was something different. The dressing was light and refreshing – a real highlight.
Grilled Salmon – Tasted good, though I reckon it would’ve been even nicer if served hot. I forgot to ask for it to be warmed up, and the staff didn’t mention it either – maybe that wasn’t an option?
Sausage Roll – A proper thick sausage roll, very filling. They brought out Stokes ketchup with it, which was a nice little surprise – much better than the usual stuff.
Blue Cheese & Spinach Quiche – This kind of combo can often be a bit too rich and heavy, but this one really surprised me. The pastry was light and crisp, and the filling had just the right balance – the blue cheese didn’t overshadow the spinach or egg. Everything came together really nicely.
We ate on one of the sofas in the main dining room, which felt quite grand. The seating was super comfy, and the whole place had that relaxed, holiday vibe. A lovely lunch spot to unwind in a charming...
Read moreYou know when you read reviews and you think, ‘this review was probably written by the best friend of the owner’! Well, I am NOT the best friend of the owner, nor I usually write reviews as high as this one as who will read them, and more importantly, who will believe them. I usually read the worse ones to give me a balanced view (bad reviews are definitely not written by the owner’s best friend). Anyway, if only one word I could use to describe this place would be ‘Idyllic”. If I am allowed more than one word I would not waste them using the ones everybody uses for reviews: beautiful, wonderful food, incredible atmosphere. No, that is a given of a 5 start reviews. No. I would say something like, you know when you see what looks like a gorgeous place but it never lives to your expectations? At the end something will leave you saying, ‘yes, but…’ Well, this place did not. You might think that it is a bit expensive. Maybe, but in this case, and one of the few cases in my experience, it is totally worth it. It makes you feel like you are rich but without the money. The people who work there are super friendly and attentive. Specially Adrian who did his utmost to make us feel welcome and at home (and not in a creepy kind of way). We sat in the back garden and the experience was, as I mentioned, like being wealthy but without the wallet to back it. Do not believe...
