Michael's Mediterranean Restaurant — Restaurant in Cotswold District

Good food but service was appalling & uncomfortable! Ordered Moules as an appetiser size. The menu says comes with choice of fries or bread. It was when the food was delivered I realised she didn't ask which one I wanted. So I asked for fries & didn't touch the bread. Received the bill & the fries had been charged along with a service charge of 12.5%. We asked for both to be removed as the service wasn't great & was hard to get their attention as they were busy talking about a Go Funding page. We would have still left a tip but what we wanted to leave not what is dictated to us. When we asked for the fries to be removed the first waitress asked what the issue was & we pointed at the menu & the wording, (comes with choice of bread or fries). She said the smaller portion doesn't come with the choice & we argued it doesn't say that. Then the second waitress came over & again asked what the problem is & we explained again. She insisted we had to pay for the fries even though the menu is wrong. Then they went back to the bar area & were talking about us. Then they went into the kitchen & told the chef/owner we were refusing to pay. He then came out asking again, what is the issue. To which we said I'm sure you know what the issue is as the entire restaurant heard. He then walked away and said if you don't want to pay then don't! If they would have handled it professionally we would have left a tip, which would have made up for the difference for the fries anyway. So ridiculous and unprofessional we have never had service like this before & hope not to again. Update to owners reply. It is a complete lie that you came out of the kitchen due to us raising our voices! You came out because the staff said we refused to pay for the fries. We refused to pay as it was wrong on the menu which we actually pointed out to the staff and she still insisted it had to be paid:) The entire restaurant heard you and your staff being unprofessional to us, not us...

Popped in for a coffee and cake, warmly greeted and offered a table. Ordered one coffee, 1 tea and two chocolate brownies and paid straight away £14.08, seemed pricey even for the Cotswolds but sat down and waited. While waiting noticed on the specials board that the brownies were £3.50 each, from the menu coffee was £3 and the tea was £2.80 which equals £12.80. When the waitress brought our order I asked how this had come to £14.08 and she explained that the till ads a 10% service charge automatically and offered to refund it. Not wanting to make a scene I said not to bother and thought to myself that I had NEVER come across a service charge for coffee and cake and this was sharp practice for unwary tourists however while consuming the order I noticed in small print on the bottom of the menu the line that a 10% service charge would be added to tables of 8 customers or more. At this point I again spoke to the waitress and showed her this, again she apologised and offered the service charge refund and at this point I took it. I know this was only £1.28 but feel this was dishonest pricing to catch people out. I have no problem paying a service charge for a meal but...

Better last year Food was over cooked Gave us Pitta bread with everything Even though it said served with potatoes or crusty bread . Didn’t even bother to mention it ? Like did you run out and just couldn’t even be bothered to say ? Probably because the lady manger was rude ( which btw don’t bother asking for anything as she will just shut you down and not help ) as she did to all 6 of us ! Wouldn’t make any extra room for us dismissed us all completely Dog and it’s bed at our feet Hurrying us along at 9 o’clock on a Saturday night they left the door open on purpose to freeze us out ( Good job we didn’t mention how awful the food was while we was there ) So basically if you want a unwelcome careless meal go here 😀 Shame as it use to be nice massively gone down hill The people that work here don’t care about the restaurant ( chef & manger ) clearly Also soda water tastes or pure salt just another thing to tick off the weird evening Left disappointed as we know how nice it use to be . But from the moment we arrived felt so uncomfortable squished in a corner and basically get what your given . Cheese cake didn’t taste right...
