Chocolate and Vanilla Marble Cake (Ā£3.50) Large Hot Chocolate (Ā£3)
Verdict: Unfortunately, this is yet another tragic tea room experience of mine - a place which serves cakes that give you phobia š©š Iāve been eyeing this place for a while since it seems like a cosy tea room in the centre of University of Warwick. Their cake galore never fails to allure me and I just couldnāt resist it anymore, so I decided to try them out. š°Moreover, this place is always packed so it has to be good right? But NO!! I guess most students just come here as they are faced with constrained choices of eateries around campus.
Having an afternoon tea is suppose to be a pleasurable and relaxing experience. āļø However, this cake turned the whole experience upside down. It was dry, tasteless and extremely crumbly. The marble cake seemed to have gone bad because it was so hard that I had to stab my fork into it, and it started to crumble into chunks of mini rocks. It was just the most awful cake Iāve had in my life!! Nobody should have to ever go through this experience, especially when youāre paying for it š© I was utterly disappointed with the cake and was hoping that the hot chocolate would do me some good. Well, I was wrong again. š It was so dilute and bitter. I could barely taste any cocoa and Iām guessing that an upsize here just means extra hot water?! Honestly regretted for getting a large because I struggled to finish itā¦thatās how bad it was (I never struggle to finish hot chocolate - I could chug on it all day š) A very disappointing experience and Iām very sure that I wonāt be returning so...
Read moreWow! Capitalism DOES work! The entrepreneurs at Curiousitea Coffee House generate some considerable profit (at least I suspect so, judging from the high quality beverages and food) and use it to support Student services. This is how it should be. The free market removes any unwanted nuisance and makes sure those who work hard and are willing to go the extra mile in extra-curricular activities, like preparing delicious coffee for well deserving and hard-working University staff, can get ahead in this competitive environment and make the world famous Warwick Koan fly high and proud. Thank you, Curiositea! I drop by whenever I can sneak out of my office in the Business School. One of my students had the idea to let some undergrads studying in the Humanities work in your wonderful café and get payed through the tips they receive. This would make them familiar with real work, give them valuable experiences to include in their CV and might even have the nice side effect of giving your profit margins a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNice atmosphere and cakes, but staff is rude. It often takes 15 minutes to get a simple drink, even when the place is empty, because the staff is to busy chatting around.
UPDATE Sept 2023
The place got much better recently. It has been redesigned very nicely, everything is clean, the staff is friendly. The waiting times have reduced, coffee quality is good and importantly does not get worse (as is the case with every other place on campus). The opening times are good as well. The only thing that would make it better in my opinion is a better selection of non-sweet hot snacks, but the cakes are still very good. Probably the best place...
