Wondertree - Gatwick South — Restaurant in Crawley

We visited Wondertree on 11.08.24 around 5am. Even though the place was busy we were greeted by a very friendly host Ronni who took us straight away to a table with an amazing view by the window. Nice to see the staff receiving us with such good energy and smiles on their faces. Our waiter Asia gave us some recommendations about the menu and she was spot on. The food was soooo delicious (we went straight into it. No time for photos). Food too good. Food arrived hot and presentable. The Moroccan breakfast was the highlight of my morning and so as the fresh avocado smash w/ smoked salmon. Drink - little miss sunshine was mind blowing. Absolutely loved it. We asked a few other food items throughout our meals and Asia was always attentive, checking on us and making sure we were happy with the food and drinks. Was nice to see all staff working hard but happy at the same time, and very early in the morning. That’s a great start of a nice holidays. Fantastic atmosphere and very clean restaurant. Love the decor and the lighting too. The spots by the window are brutal. The best spot and the best restaurant in South Terminal. We were also surprised by the kindness of the Manager on shift - Carlos , by being offered a discount on our meal and experience at the restaurant. Our visit to Wondertree was a delightful experience from start to finish. Nestled in a vibrant location with views overlooking the airport concourse, the atmosphere was lively yet relaxed — perfect for unwinding before a flight or simply enjoying a good meal.

Ambience: The décor was bright and whimsical, with plenty of natural light. The layout felt open and airy, giving the restaurant a modern, family-friendly vibe. It struck a nice balance between casual dining and a touch of fun — ideal for travelers of all kinds.

Service: Service was quick and friendly. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, and they made sure our needs were met with a smile. It’s always a plus when you feel genuinely welcomed.

Food: The menu was diverse, offering a good mix of healthy options and comfort food. We ordered a mix of dishes — Raquel tried the grilled chicken wrap with sweet potato fries, while Olga went for the vegan buddha bowl. Both dishes were fresh, flavorful, and well-presented. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and we appreciated the attention to dietary preferences.

Drinks & Extras: We also sampled their smoothies, which were a hit — refreshing and packed with flavor. The coffee was solid too, perfect for a midday pick-me-up.

This is a mixed review. I got a lovely seat overlooking the runway which was excellent. The welcome and seating process was flawless. Unfortunately my server who was from Italy just lacked attention to detail. I was ordering my food and he asked if I wanted a drink and I said that I will take a look at the menu and instead of waiting to take my drinks order he walked off and returned 5 mins later. I ordered a lemonade for my beverage. My food arrived which was delicious, ceragee chicken (started, probably not spelling it right) was really tasty with a kick of heat. Then a poke bowl for the main arrived. Meanwhile I could see my drink at the bar, and my server passed it 3 times before I signalled and got it delivered to my table. That process from the point my drink was at the bar to me actually getting it was just over 8 minutes. When I did get it, it was put (hard) on the table without a word or apology for the delay. Then it took 3 attempts for me to get a coffee order. Just a lot of small touch points missed. I teach hospitality and I felt I was not best appreciated. Also at no point did anyone come and ask me if everything was ok with my food. Really Delicious food. Service just needs a bit more attention.
