I came here and drove quite a considerable distance. As, I live near Windsor for my friends birthday the other night. The Band that played was fantastic . Superb music. I cannot fault that, and the building itself is beautiful , really lovely and elegant. however the rest of the experience was not that great hence the three stars.
We seemed to wait ages for drinks and I struggled to get through my drinks cause they were too strong in alcohol for me. They also don't do any non - alcoholic beers or cider's , but you can choose a mocktail (However, they still gave an alcoholic drink to my friend who had asked for a non alcoholic mocktail as she can't drink at all. So, we had to send that back and they did rectify the situation, however that wasn't great). I was then paranoid about mine being alcoholic too as I also prefer not to drink these days and I had to drive back to Windsor and had already had my free drink on arrival .
Also, I have been a waitress before and the biggest beef I had was that they took away plates when the whole table wasn't finished yet. I understand that they may have had to rush, but it's not nice for the customer as it makes them feel pressured to eat faster.
The other reason I took off stars, was during the band playing we were told off for talking , however this was not stated before to us when we arrived. (That should have been either told to us by the venue or the people hosting the night or both. So it's truly clarified. (We have never been to this venue before for a night where there is a band playing and I don't even live here). If it had been stated that we couldn't talk. Then we wouldn't have done. I have been to plenty of Jazz clubs and other venues and never have I ever been told off for talking before. It just meant it felt like you were back at school and couldn't relax properly. Music is there to create an atmosphere. It should be a social experience, it should be creating a relaxing and mellow vibe, but this just made me on edge and I felt like we were being watched and then for the rest of the set it made me very uneasy. (Again, I am aware that it could have been the bands preference, however again this should have been explained if it was. )
The server's though were friendly enough though after the set had finished and they did check to make sure we had everything we needed.
Now onto the food. That wasn't the best. It was just pretty average. I am quite a foodie and have been to quite a lot of places. The starter was very rich. It was okay and well cooked but very rich. The main course, was also very rich , and the salmon was overcooked. The potatoes and the salad were nice, but again very rich. We were also served at different times, with my friends vegetarian plate coming before the rest of the table. Again, that is not great. They did do a nice pudding though . The brownie was very well done and gooey in the centre. And also, they did sing happy birthday to my friend which was nice and took photo's for us as well which was very kind.
Anyway, apart from all the above I still had a good night and my friend still had a good birthday so that is all...
Read moreBigot manager/owner. AVOID THIS BAR!
It deserves a rating of - 0!
Entered with 10+ people. Ordered our round of drinks in the garden, all drinks arrived with everyone enjoying the sunshine - when randomly the manager/owner decided to approach the one Asian in the group and insisted that he knew him, that his name was ‘Usman’, and that he was known to the pub watch group. He told my friend to leave the premises immediately before he calls the police!
Fact, our ‘Asian’ counterparts name is in fact ‘Darren’, and he’s never been to the area before, let alone the pub! The manager/owner still decided to interrogate our friend and told him that he knew his name was ‘Usman’ - despite ‘Darren’ showing him his ID!
Following this, the manager/owner showed the pub watch photo of 'Usman' to a member of our group, after refusing to show it to ‘Darren’. The photo was of another man, of Asian ethnicity, which made no resemblance to ‘Darren’ whatsoever.
This truly was the worst form of discrimination I’ve seen in a very long time, and I’d highly recommend to avoid this bar - spend your money elsewhere!

Read moreWe have been going to the Gatsby for many years, and last night was our final one.
We go every year as a family for a birthday celebration, we sat at our table and were handed menus, we all made our selections and ordered (most of us went for the fillet steak as this is their signature dish) about 10 mins after ordering we were told they only had three fillet steaks left!! (7pm on a Friday! Ridiculous !! ) so we had to all sit there are work out who is getting steak and who isn’t! This was a very awkward situation to put us in!
Then as the evening progressed service was slow, and trying to get attention of a waiter/waitress was an impossible task! If the restaurant had been busy you could understand it, but there was only one other table and the rest of the place was empty! (This speaks volumes!)
Last year our bill was £850 and this time it was £540 the difference being down to the restaurant! No fillet steak and slow drink service, this cost them a £300 loss of revenue, very bad management.
To top it all they put service on the bill!! So if nothing else they have a good sense...
