Having previously given the Steam coach a 5 star rating based upon a great Mothers Day experience in 2023 this year's review isn't so great. On making the booking we were asking what meat we wanted for our roast. No problem. When we got there 10 mins early we were asked for a bank card to ensure we paid. I don't think our 88 year old Mum was ready to do a runner!! Our dinner was put in front of us within 2 mins which made you think it was sat under a hot plate for a while. The food itself was ok. The waitress asked mid meal if she could clear our plates.....then did clear two plates whilst my sister was still eating. She then left dessert menus on the table with no instructions. 25 mins later I managed to catch her attention to order and she then said we had to order at the bar. We didn't bother as the whole experience wasn't what we had come to expect. Last year a little present for Mums and a free Prosecco. This year a totally different...
Read moreI booked a table here for a group of ten, and the process couldn't have been easier. On the day each person ordered and paid for their own meals, but the staff kept track and ensured the food came out together. This meant we avoided difficulties splitting the bill and no one was left out of pocket.
For Sunday lunch we had a selection of roasts - beef, chicken, lamb. These all were great, and we each got a little gravy boat to accompany our dish. One of us ordered the ribs from the regular menu, which I was a little envious of.
Despite a satisfying meal, a few brave souls pushed on to enjoy desserts. The treacle pudding was delicious. The apple crumble was filling. Both came with a generous jug of custard. Ice cream by the scoop was a safe bet for those needing just a small sweet.
Our table was well attended, service was quick without feeling rushed. We had a...
Read moreI love the steam coach & attend regularly. Last night I went for a Christmas meal & quiz. I ordered hunters chicken with chips. It was burnt & you could taste the charcoal. I complained to the waitress. She returned with the meal advising me the chicken is chargrilled! I know the difference between chargrilled & burnt! The waitress said the chef advised if I would like another chicken it would take an hour, so I had no alternative but to eat it & cut the burnt bits off. The landlady came to see me to advise it wasn't burnt but chargrilled. I said I could taste the charcoal. Her kind response was you can either wait an hour or leave it! She at no point tried to difuse the situation or rectify it & she was rude. I ate the meal & left the burnt bits. Customer service of the year award goes to the landlady of the...
