Wow I have no words. I am speechless. I am still trying to forget the sensational taste the food has left on my tongue. How will anything else ever satisfy my taste buds after what I just tasted from olive Indian restaurant today? I am in love! This was my first time trying food from here as it’s quite far from me, but now I can never try Indian food from anywhere else, I had the chicken dansak, the chicken biryani and the chicken vindaloo, and a plain naan… my oh my! It was like a wonderful dream, every bite was full of intense flavour and heat, I loved it so much I wanted to cry. I got up and helped myself to a little bit more because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to it just yet. I wanted to keep eating it and did not want to stop. I felt passionate love for it. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about any other food. I have officially found the meal I could eat unlimitedly without getting sick of it. If I was on death row this would be my last meal. My sisters husband got it for her but as it was late at night she only had like a little spoon of each dish, I feel sorry for her because as hard as I tried to save more for her I just couldn’t, I ate most of it myself and put some aside for my husband so he can get a taste of it and get hooked onto it and be willing to make the 1hr journey to Hemel Hampstead to get the best Indian food ever and satisfy my craving. Thank you Ahad for introducing me to the olive restaurant. I have a feeling this is the beginning of a great love story between the...
Read moreThis has to be the worst restaurant in Hemel Hempstead. I did not want to leave the review but I felt I had to, I surprised this place has so many good reviews, I suspicious of they are genuine Reviews. This is not personal but this needs to be done .
We ordered chicken biryani and a lamb sag , when the food was bought to our table I was shocked to see the size of the biryani, it’s was a kids size extremely tiny , the Nan was soggy and full of sugar .
The place has an banquet offer and we clearly mentioned we will be ordering from the menu and not doing his banquet deal as they generally reduce the portions .
After tasting the Lamb dish and the Biriyani , you could taste the food was old and most likely leftover food that has been used again for the biryani , the rice was very mushy and slimy , the lamb also tasted like leftover old stale food .
When I asked for drink , they try to upSALE by asking you to go for larger pint size drink. And when we ordered for 1 glass the waiter asked do you want 2 , I am dead serious they are too money hungry .
When I told the waiter the food was not good he did not apologise and said everyone likes the food here .
We felt the BILL was very highly priced and didn’t make sense to us, we just wanted to pay and get out.
As we went outside my colleague was very sick and was vomiting , we had to wait Until he was fit enough to drive . We will be contacting the council as it is unfair to be fed old food .
I will never ever visit...
Read moreStill dream of this place many years later. Traveled to U.K. for work. ABSOLUTE BEST Indian food I have ever had! Service was wonderful. Great atmosphere. Out of this world food!
10/132020 Still absolutely dreaming of this place. I don't know what Pandemic has brought, but in my experience, service was absolutely excellent. Good on you chaps. I don't actually recall which curry I ordered each time, but I think it may have been prepared with birdseyes chilis (there were halved chilis in the dish). I hale from the U.S. of A and it's pretty difficult to get a nicely spiced curry in my neck of the woods (just North of Louisville, KY). In so far as my experience, the staff at The Olive was more friendly and warm than I think the entire population of Hemel Hempstead (I hope? this was a cultural thing?) If you are a fellow traveler like myself, and in search of good eats, a very, VERY, fine meal awaits you in this small hamlet. I found the staff to be very, very friendly, and was very refreshing for my American sensibilities. Great food, Great staff, 5 Stars!
Thanks to Stuart Wainman- remembered it was Rezella that I had. Very spicy without being just hot with no flavor. I also sampled the pompadoms and other "appetizer's they had on offer which were all superb. Really, I am not an easy-going food critic, But I really have no complaints with The Olive, it's really, really, good Indian food, paired with very, quite good, service. What more can you ask...
