Beautiful sunny day, lovely big garden with lots of tables and chairs. However, there are lots of staff milling about, but getting served drinks took forever! I was going to go for a gin and tonic, but no Fever Tree tonics. I asked if they had elderflower tonic in the brand they stocked, they had run out of those. I was offered ginger beer, and other random mixers, despite saying more than once I was only interested in the tonics as I was hoping for a G&T. This seemed to confuse them a tad! I ended up going for a glass of white wine, which I then got ice for, as it wasn't chilled anywhere near enough. My husband went for a real ale.
We got our drinks, were handed menus, and we headed out to the garden. It turns out, we were handed the wrong menus, they'd given us their Sunday menu. So we had to return to the bar area and query the menus. We were then given the correct menus, and came back to the table again.
Lots of free tables, but they were all covered in empty glasses, dirty dishes piled up, a total mess! We managed to find a clear table after a quick wander around.
We chose the falafel & red pepper houmous sharing starter, the souvlaki chicken skewers , and a chicken caesar salad. The starter was ok, a little overpriced, but not too bad. The mains came out. the chicken skewer dish was 6 small pieces of chicken with not much flavour, a rock hard piece of pitta bread, and salad. It was ok, again, a little underwhelming, and a tad pricey. The bigger disappointment was the caesar salad. It was inedible! The entire thing was absolutely covered with salt, as well as the parmesan, I cannot stress enough just how salty this dish was. So, with both of us unable to eat this dish, we returned it and asked for it to be remade without the salt. A couple of minutes later, a waiter came to us and said something a little bit shocking... The dish comes in ready made and packaged in portions, they just put it on the plate! It's a chicken caesar salad, it's lettuce, chicken, and parmesan, surely even the simplest of kitchens can make that??? This put us off ordering anything else, so we took the refund, which was a whopping £14.50, for a bowl of lettuce and a few small bits of chicken!!!!
We definitely will not be returning, we were down £70 and nothing WOW'd us in any way! If you're after a nice lunch somewhere pretty, keep driving, this place just isn't...
Read moreReally gutted as this place has descended into trash. The only appeal left to venue is the lake view. My fiancé and I have been to this place numerous times, and it has gradually declined to the point we no longer want to visit. At the door we were told to find a table and could sit anywhere we want. However, all the free tables indoors had leftover food, crumbs, dirty used cutlery, used towels, empty bottles and glasses. So, we had to clear up one of the tables and moved the stuff off to one of the other tables that had trash. That was annoyingly disappointing and disgusting as that whole time none of the staff came around to clear up and clean the tables. Furthermore, the menu had been changed with a new menu that looks very limited. Typical pub menu nothing exciting and versatile🙄. Today, we reluctantly went back as it was sunny and felt like having a drink by the lake view to make for a good weekend. We disappointingly saw that once again there was quite a few indoor tables with dirty cutlery, plates, bottles and empty glasses. Whoever manages this place needs to step up!! We headed to the lake view at the back side and again were fronted by the same sight. We had to chose a table to clean up and again were surrounded by free tables all with dirty plates leftover food, empty glasses and bottles, napkins flying into the lake at times as dirt never gets cleared. All the time we were sat there, all customers who came to the lake view side had to clear up a table themselves by moving the stuff to a nearby table🙄. There was flies at times because of the dirty dishes left uncleared. This was once a nice special venue to bring visiting friends and family to but now it has turned into a trash pit. So gutting to see. It would be a solid venue with better management and staff being mindful about hygiene, tidiness, good food and drinks!! Unfortunately today we felt uncomfortable and had to leave sooner after one drink as we couldn't bare being sat next to...
Read moreWe have eaten here a few times and it has been fine for a quick, nothing special, lunch. However our visit last week was very disappointing. Although it was 2 days before Christmas we were still able to get a table straight away for 5 of us and we were told when we went up to order that it was a half an hour wait for food. Although my dad was on his lunch break that still left us plenty of time. Some of us only wanted the small plate dishes rather than a full meal. Myself plus 2 others went up to the bar to order. My daughter has a dairy intolerance and they were very helpful with this. We ordered the 5 meals and added it to the tab we had set up when we first ordered the drinks, however she didn't read the order back or confirm the amount. My daughter's arrived first, and as always she waited for everyone else's to arrive. After about 10 mins we chased it and we told they would be out shortly. My daughter then had to eat her, now almost cold, meal by herself. Eventually after another 10 mins, 2 other dishes came out and we were told to enjoy our meal. When we mentioned we were still waiting on 2 more we were told we hadn't ordered them. The waitress went back to check and came back with the order receipt saying that I definitely didn't order these meals. The 2 other people that had been with me when I ordered also said that they heard me order them. The waitress then pushed the receipt towards me and told me to find my order on there! She proceeded to say that she will order the food now but it won't be ready for ages. She was rude, disrespectful and showed no customer service skills at all. When I said that my dad has to get back to work, she said there's nothing I can do as we are busy and mumbled an apology as she walked off. I was shocked at this service and will not be gping back there again, despite the fact it's nice and local for work lunches. My dad went back to work hungry and we had to take my son to...
