Ultra modern minimalist design and decor in traditional Derbyshire stone built café in a tranquil setting. This really is a gem of a find , set in well established garden's that have been commissioned In the 1950s for the blind society and still well kept today . The café has a more Mediterranean feel than the Derbyshire dales and one could think you were in a suburb of France or maybe Spain . The café also has a small outside seating area with individual tables for couples or the small family ,all now compliant with the covid regulations at this date of review post. The food is reasonable on cost and served by the most polite of staff and is of a very good standard . The coffee served is of an exceptional quality and has been specially sourced , and is served to a variety styles to suit most coffee lovers requirements . The café also has a small shop counter that sells its blends to take and make at home for the serious coffee buffs . The food here is local produce plus a dash of modern British fusion which works very well , plus a selection of home baked cakes , all reasonable on cost , considering the up market style and design of the surroundings , you really are dining in style at a reasonable cost . The cost of the average soup and sandwich deal was around £6 + but the soup is home made the breads are artisan , and contents of either meat or cheese are of a very good quality I noticed . The café also has a drinks license and they have a fair selection of wines , prosecco available in small bottles for the more modest drinker , but may I suggest this is not a hard core drinking venue , more of your café society approach to drinking , and it works . I think it is a great place for the ladies for a prosecco brunch , or couples and families who appreciate quality food and surroundings without it costing a fortune . The café also has a good WC facility for the less able or wheel chair user , plus a baby change facility all cleaned to a high standard . There is also a car park here , local charges apply . On the whole a good place to eat and drink at reasonable cost in great surroundings , well...
Read moreHad breakfast, tea and a chocolate brownie here. Service was good and staff were very pleasant and helpful. It was extremely clean and naively laid out. Unlike some cafes there’s space between tables and you don’t feel like you’re sat on top of others. It’s well decorated and overall a nice atmosphere. The breakfast was lovely, very well cooked. Quite expensive but nice. The only criticism is the brownie wasn’t very chocolatey! It didn’t taste like it was made from good quality chocolate and was quite oily. From a service perspective and if I was offering advice to improve standards I would say it may be worth asking customers questions such as would you like white or brown toast? And does anyone have any allergies? Little questions like that make...
Read moreYou only have to look at the photos to see how gorgeous the food is. Everything except for the Italian pastries are made on-site and the quiche, cakes and pastries are fabulous. I've never had a bad meal here and there is always a very good selection to choose from. This is my go-to cafe of choice for breakfast or lunch: breakfast: either English breakfast muffin (excellent Maycocks bacon on a muffin or eggs Benedict, which they make very well). lunch: always one of the in-house made quiches or pies - served with a deliciously crispy salad and followed up with a massive slice of cake made by the on-site chef. The interior is well laid out and nicely presented and overlooks the car park so it's possible to...
