2024 Update: The council need to get a grip and listen to their customers (tax payers). None of the below has improved and now they plan to remove the paddling pool for a splash pad, found elsewhere to be unhygienic, slippy (dangerous) and with poor maintenance records. They gave only two choices, both splash pads at public consultation. This park has had a paddling pool since Victorian times. The state of the paths are shocking and unstable for wheelchair users. Are you putting a new wheelchair and buggy friendly surface down? The ice cream van pumps out diesel fumes all day next to the kids play area, I don't recommend. Again the loos are still taxed with coin payments in our cashless society. If you want to make a decent mark on this place, have the train go all the way around the park like originally designed back in the day. New tennis courts colour an eyesore on the landscape.
The best bits of improvement is the rose garden, looking good and the cafe.
2022: Could be cleaner, bins need emptying, bin bags dumped by side of bins, paths with pot holes and trip hazards, public toilets a rip off when we pay our council tax we're then charged to use them. Fair enough there's tourists but why not let them to enjoy the visit rather than worry about finding 20p in a cashless society? I also had to question the use of a sprinkler on the bowling green when we're suffering with the hottest summer on record, surly we should be...

The park has several “areas”, including toilets (there is a charge) plenty of benches scattered around the park, a cafe, a decorative garden which at the height of summer is really vibrant and full of colour. The park is also accessible for prams and wheelchair users.
Ice cream trucks often occupy the area on warmer days, Some of its features include a skate park, tennis court, basketball court, a large plying field, a boules area, a couple of concrete table tennis tables, a small boat “lake” which can be hired during peak seasons, a miniature train ride up and back down the park which is suitable for very young children, and a park suitable for younger and older children, with a small water area which again is switched on in the peak seasons.
