Absolutely appalling!!!! Stayed here New Year’s Eve and planned to just relax here for the afternoon/evening and see in the new year. However, they told us they were not serving food so after a few hours, we got a taxi into town to go and have a nice meal, we asked the staff what time they closed and were told 12:30 so told them we would be back to see in the new year there. However, when we returned just after 11pm the place was in darkness and locked up! Why would you take New Year’s Eve bookings if you were not going to be open for your customers to celebrate? We rang the pub and the rude manager said they decided to close early and refused to sell us a bottle of wine for midnight as the tils were closed! It really wouldn’t have hurt him to let us pay the next day would it since he had ruined our evening! My friend called him to try again and he was even ruder than before and hung up!! We had booked breakfast for the following day but were told the latest we could eat was 8:45am, the woman serving was just rushing everyone as much as possible, I’m guessing the early timings were so that she could go back to bed because when we tried to hand our key in the check out the pub was locked up and in darkness again so I had to go and find the cleaner to leave it with her, she was very nice though not like the management! This is a truly lovely place, the converted stables are great but I fear the management will run this place into the ground, which is a...

We had a twin room, which had a very small en-suite.Cleanliness wasn't too bad, although it wasn't freshened up after our first nights stay. The only sign that someone had been in the room was that the tea and coffee had been replenished. Despite the bitterly cold weather, the temperature in our room was very warm. We had our first evening meal in the pub, which appeared to have a very good atmosphere. My husband's meal was reasonable but about half of my fish was raw. I asked to speak to the chef, only to be told after about 10 minutes that he was 'busy'. After investigation we realised that the owners were away and the pub was being run by 4 young people. A girl behind the bar and 3 people attached to the kitchen, one waiting on, one washing up and one cooking. I went to the kitchen to complain and the 'chef' happened to be someone who had been working in the bar in the afternoon. He had no protective chefs clothing on and was still wearing the same woolly hat that he had worn in the afternoon. Hardly hygenic or professional. He was very rude when I made my complaint. Certainly not professional and customer service was not present. Perhaps, the owners should be more careful about who they leave in charge. Needless to say we didn't have a meal in the pub the following night. Perhaps you cannot expect customer service for...

We arrived quite late into the evening which wasn't a problem. We walked down some steep steps to get into the pub from the car park and we were met with friendly staff who showed us to our rooms. We were right at the end in a four poster bed. The room was nicely decorated and very clean on the surface but the bed was a big disappointment. It didn't have the expected curtains around the bed, instead it had a dusty net/viola across the top. Nothing on the sides, not as you'd expect a four poster to be dressed. The mattress was awful. It needs replacing. I could feel every spring and lump and bump there was. The room was quite hot-good job we bought a fan with us. The bathroom was adequate, no complaints about that. We were woken early in the morning by traffic rumbling past and the people in the room next door going to the toilet (which you could hear quite clearly). We didn't eat or drink at the pub so cannot comment on the food quality. No phone signal or WiFi in the room. The tv was awkwardly placed and was blocked by one of the posts of the four poster bed. It wasn't set up either and it took a while for us to be able to watch it. The remote was also hit and miss when trying to change the channel. The volume button didn't work at all. Overall, it wasn't a terrible place to stay but it did not live up to our...

Had a Christmas meal here but left half of it, the turkey and gravy were the only best parts. The mash potato and Yorkshire pudding didn't taste fresh, the veg was undercooked, the stuffing and roast potatoes seemed deep fried. The brownie and raspberry sorbet dessert was very nice. The table was laid out nicely for a festive meal. We had to wear coats as the seating area was very very cold, neither the radiator or log burner was on. Staff are very young, not really clued up, didn't know how to use the till. Paying was an ordeal for them and chef was rude, tried to charge me for three courses when I only had two then didn't apologise when he was proved incorrect. Terrible experience for a Greene King pub, won't be visiting again.

Only stayed one night wish we'd stayed longer , staff were lovely helpful and friendly, our room number 8 was perfect spotless and clean everything you needed. Fish pond outside our room in the courtyard which added to the charm. Booked evening meal which was excellent, pub was very homely with log fire atmosphere very friendly. Will definitely be back for longer next time . Dawn , Steve and Penny ( the staffie ) Rollins .
