The welcome was genuinely warm and friendly, we were shown to our room in an adjoining cottage. The room itself was warm and comfortable, the style was exactly what you would expect of a country village inn. Comfortable bed, plenty of storage and the amenities needed were all provided, including tea & coffee, nice biscuits and some tasty sweets as a welcoming treat. The pub is old and beautiful - full of character, with a storied history; inside there was a great atmosphere with a mix of locals, residents of the inn, dog walkers and hikers. The staff were pleasant, informative and efficient, an excellent range of beverages including top quality locally brewed ales - Eyam Quarantine golden ale for me and Tempranillo Rosé for my wife. Dinner was very good, tasty, home cooked food, sensibly priced and not too pretentious, which so many pubs try to be. The young serving team were polite and efficient, the food and drinks arrived in good time. Breakfast was delicious, a small but adequate range of cereals and juice, plus hot beverages, toast and condiments. The full English breakfast was superb, we have never had a cooked breakfast served with everything so piping hot! All items were cooked perfectly and nicely presented in plated fashion. The selection was missing a hash brown or similar potato cake though! All in all, a lovely comfortable and relaxing stay. Note: hopefully it is obvious, but I wouldn't want to muslead anyone - some of the images are of nearby Eyam Hall and church, and...
Read moreWe were staying in the Shepherds Hut, Hillcrest on our 30th wedding anniversary. Our proprietor Rachel recommended The Miners Arms for the quality of the food. We were not disappointed, and after a good walk from the other end of the village, we found our way down the ginnel to the rear entrance of this historic Inn. Once inside we were given a warm welcome from the barmaid who helped us find a table. It was a menu with a good choice of traditional English pub food. I chose the traditional roast with pork, my wife roast chicken with Stilton sauce and we had seasonal veg and trimmings. The portions were more than ample and everything was obviously homemade and very fresh. I chose the bakewell tart for dessert and was told that it was from the bakery locally producing these delicious pastry tarts. Fabienne had cappuccino and Amaretto ice cream, again amply served. My wife had a starter of Honey grilled goat cheese with red onion marmalade. We had J2O Mango and Apple for drinks. We were very satisfied and total spend was £56! I thought this was excellent value for food of such fine quality and obviously from the hand of a chef who had perfected his trade to the highest standard. I naturally expressed my compliments to that chap,( who a local told me was new to the Miners Arms) as I did to the waitressing staff for their excellent service and attentiveness. There is no doubt we will drop in again on our next visit to the delightful village of Eyam and once again experience the...
Read moreI recommend the Miner's Arms hotel and bnb highly. We stayed 2 nights and felt the price was right and the fact it included a full English breakfast. The breakfast was sausage, egg (cooked any way), the nicest bacon I've ever tasted, mushrooms, baked beans, tomato and toast. The beds were comfy, the rooms were quiet, plenty of hot water, a lovely bath and close enough to walk to all the local tourist attractions. The evening meal menu was lovely and value for money. There's parking out the back for any size vehicle and they give the code for access to their Internet. The nicest part about the Miner's Arms was the staff. They made sure we had everything we needed, they checked in to ask if the meal was ok while we were still eating and whether there was any success or drinks we might like. It's all in the training because each new staff member had the same questions. I really felt like I'd stumbled into the best pub/bnb in England. The countryside is beautiful and appears unchanged for generations. There's a museum with very cool information about the plague of 1666 and in town are old stocks for local criminals to be locked up for a few hours as punishment. Nearby Bakewell has bikes to hire so you can ride the amazing rail trail, which is flat (no hills). The Miner's Arms is a great base for a fun getaway. I took photos of the room and meals and will try to add them when...
