Cactus Jack — Restaurant in Doncaster

Gone downhill, we have loved this place and dined here since it opened and have never been anything but extremely happy until last night. We ordered the combo starter, which was very good apart from now you only get one stuffed jalapeño each when you used to get two each…. Naughty.

Before my son who was still clearly eating his chicken wings had finished the staff attempted to take the plates away (he actively still had a wing in his hands and one on his plate!). Drinks were ok but the experience was lacking, one of the things we love is the frosted glasses. Nope that’s gone. 2 x steaks ordered which were extremely thin, dry and had a lot of fat (not the quality over the last decade we remember) chicken chimichangas were also ordered which always smaller than ever, the thing used to hang off the plates and was a struggle to eat the whole thing (which I always did because it’s so good). I went to toilet which only took a couple of minutes and the plates had gone, we were not asked how our meals were and as a treat for Mother’s Day we left very displeased with the food overall and service. My manager treated me to a lunch today as thanks for my performance at work. She asked where I wanted my lunch from and i immediately said Cactus Jacks as love or rather loved their burgers. It was takeaway and I asked for what id always had before....a plain burger with wedges. I can't describe what was served up. It was nothing like what I'd ever been served before from there. The burger was rock solid and i mean rock solid all the way round the edge. A centimetre in from the edge was not much better and inedible. The burger was black and hard all the way to the centre. I cant undrmerstand why the chef let it go out of the kitchen. It went in the bin. Not sure why thos happened as usually theyre extremely delicious burgersfrom Cactus Jacks. The wedges were great! Absolutely terrible food, the starter was fine but nothing to call home about. When our mains came the presentation was very deceiving as it was swimming in oil and the meat was very chewy and dry and wasn't eaten by either of the party. We were there for the best part of an hour and not sure if it was just the day we caught them on but none of the staff came to check on us or clear our plates. When we left the lady at the bar never asked us how our meal was until after I had paid and when I told her it wasn't the best she just shrugged me off. I then proceeded to call the manager who then suggested I was lying about our experience, and that he couldn't talk right now as he was very busy. I feel extremely sorry for the staff if that's the type of management that they have to put up with. The manager said that he would call me back when the so called restaurant wasn't as busy and needless to say I am still waiting.
