My partner, granddaughter and I visited the Horse and Groom on 20th August 2016. We ordered a Nacho shared starter, which arrived on a large dinner plate, and there was enough for several people. Only one side plate was given so we had to ask for more. The starter was very tasty, and we were tempted to eat all of it and in hindsight we wished we had as the main course was appalling. We all ordered lasagna, which was tasteless, dry and unappetizing. Side orders of chips were under cooked, with several of the chips with blackened edges due to insufficient peeling. None of the waiting on staff, nor the bar staff asked us how our meal was, but I expect that the chef on seeing our plates returned to the kitchen full of food would realise that the meal was poor. Needless to say we will not return again. I have given the review a one star rating, bu only because I could not post this without...
Read moreWe arrived to a rather noisy group already there who were part of a funeral party. Rather loud laughing and talking which impinged on our good time that we were trying to have. It wasn't as if they had to shout over other people there but there you are. Anyway it's not a criticism on the pub but it was just annoying! So regardless, we ordered our food and after a bit of a 'long wait' our meals finally arrived, and they were lovely, we've eaten there before and the standard has always been very good. Only fly in the ointment for me personally was when my dessert arrived (a crunchie ice cream sundae) it didn't arrive in the tall sundae glass that I was expecting and there seemed to be less of it. That was disappointing slightly....but still it was nice! Yes I can highly recommend the food there, the staff were very nice! One of our favourite places to...
Read moreVery quiet in the afternoon. Maybe we'd missed the afternoon rush? Waitress gave us a pleasant greeting and took orders promptly. We ordered 3 meals of which one was good, one poor and one sent back. Tip for the staff, if a customer states, when asked that their food is ok, that it isn't OK, then the response should never be "we've never had any complaints before" and then walk off. It was left to another colleague to offer to take it away and offer a substitute. We declined a substitute and our request for the removal of the item from the bill was honoured as it should be. This was our first visit as visiting family and none of us would recommend this...
