Kings Chamber — Restaurant in Doncaster

Well where do I start ??? Went for dinner tonight booked in for 4 adults and 2 children at 5.45pm. We arrived a little early at 5.40pm, we where taken to our table, we struggled to order using the menu app, so young waiter came over and took our order. We ordered 3 steaks, 1 well done, 1 medium with Diane sauce and 1 medium rare with peppercorn sauce,1 spare ribs, 1 mixed grill and a chicken burger. 2 bottles of wine , 1 Pepsi, 1 lemonade and 1 orange juice, it was by now 6pm. At 6.20 we thought drinks must be coming with food, 6.30 our drinks arrived but still no food, 6.45pm after waiting 45 minutes our food was presented to us. It was all down hill from then good and proper. When the steaks where placed in front of myself and my sister, we could smell fish, so looked to see if anyone round us had fish, not a captain bird's-eye in sight,then no burger bun with the chicken burger, not a problem 1 was brought to the table within 60 seconds. The 3 of us who had ordered steak proceeded to cut into our steak and oh my goodness, the well done 1 my daughter ordered nearly pulled her little teeth out, she picked it up and banged it on her plate, saying this is really dry and tough, my sisters medium was well done and as tough as the hide it came from, I was shaking with dred at the thought of cutting in to my medium rare, but I took a deep breath and went for the kill, I needn't have worried as it was well and truly dead, but like my sisters was dry, tasteless and tough as old boots, a debate actually ensued to see who's was the worst and to be honest there was only a cows whisker between all 3. I got up to find a waitress and asked her quietly if she could come to our table, as I didn't want to cause a scene as it was apparent that they were already under pressure as there were only a few staff, and other diners complaining, aren't I considerate??? The young waitress listened our complaints about the steak, and said she'd get new steaks for us, she however left our plates, 5 minutes later another what I assumed was the head waitress came to our table to say that there was a little confusion in the kitchen about what our complaint was, so we explained again about the steaks, to which she said she would get the steaks replaced, again leaving our plates, by this time the other 3 in our group were happily munching into their meals, and we're sat like lemons, so we began to eat our chips and sides, 20 minutes later still no steaks, when the who we think was the manageress came over to table to see if the replacement steaks were OK, my reply was that we still hadn't got them, she was apologetic and said I'll go get them, I said not to bother as they would more than likely be exactly the same as the first ones given how long we had waited them. My husband asked for 6 cakes to takeaway and the bill, we just wanted to get out. Now this is why I'm giving it 1 star opposed 0 stars, the manageress came back to table with our cake to takeaway, and was extremely apologetic saying that there was no charge for anything including ours cakes. I understand the covid restrictions have effected the restaurant and pub industry but that is still no excuse for the service or lack of we received. My advice is give this place a wide berth and go to the chippy...

Absolutely diabolical!! Me and my mother went to get a nice carvery and a few drinks after a hard days work, we had been looking forward to this as we had not had a carvery in ages. When we arrived, we were shown to a table that was very inaccessible (ive just had surgery and am on crutches) and hard to get sat down at due to me being non-weight bearing. When we did finally get sat down, my mother went and ordered the carvery’s and our drinks. I got a pint of Diet Coke that was extremely under filled (about half full) and my mother got a pint of beer that was flat. My mother then got up and went to the carvery area with the tickets when’re she was queuing for about 10 minutes all because there was no chef to be seen. When the chef finally arrived, she said what meats we wanted (she got beef and turkey, I got pork and turkey) and the beef was extremely dry, we got hardly any meat and what we thought was the pork I got was just a clump of fat, with no meat to be seen. We also got the veg which was also horrible with the mash being the only nice thing. The roast potatoes were grainy, hard and cold. The carrots were like sludge and the cabbage was soggy and watery. This was a horrible experience and we will not be...

Second visit was not nice like the first one!

Unfortunately it started with paying a cider that they didn’t have for long time or never like a team member said. They didn’t offer me to refund neither the difference price of my second choice cider. As a main I had Steak&Ale pie which was pale as undercooked and soggy. Definitely I prefer the Steak&Ale pie that I bought at coop and cooked myself. It was that not nice that my appetite was gone and didn’t neither fancy a free pudding after it (maybe offer to take it away?!)

About the bill, I still paid the pie even if I only tasted it twice but didn’t eat it at all. Which I think management could do better.

This are my suggestions of improvements:

-update the app! And offer at least the difference of prices to the guest before they ask you! -do main checks! This is crucial to know if guest is happy with the meal and can be proactive to solve a problem! -please chefs check your cooking time for Steak&Ale pie! As a starter I had prawn cocktail which was nice, salad really crunchy! I would do the upgrade to toast the bread on side.
