If I could give Chutney no stars I absolutely would. First some background, I've been going to Chutney and getting takeaway from them for about 10 years now.
The night before our wedding we decided to go to Chutney as we didn't want to cook and we've been there before with zero problems. All four of us ordered different foods including starters and quite enjoyed our meals. We keep being plunged into darkness occasionally as they appeared to be having some electrical problems. We head home for an early night ahead of our big day.
Around two hours later I'm awake again not feeling great, my Mum is having the same problem in another bathroom and then Dad and my groom are up too, and this goes on all night long. One of us after another being sick or having diarrhoea.
The morning of our wedding dawns and there's nothing left to get rid of and we've managed to get to the pharmacy for some imodium so we pull ourselves together for long enough to get ready and get married. We head to the reception and that's when I am unwell again ruining my wedding dress and having to disrupt my own wedding reception to go home and get changed. I spend the afternoon of my wedding asleep in bed instead of entertaining my guests.
My parents headed up to the restaurant to complain that day and there's no manager to speak to. The waiter is a little bit apologetic but there's nothing he can do. We're told to come back after our honeymoon for a refund.
Fortunately our honeymoon went off without a hitch, but unfortunately my parents have to take three whole days off work each as they are suffering badly from the after effects of our meal so we get in touch with Dudley environmental health - it's at this stage we find out that Chutney despite having been awarded several certificates for food health in the past now only hold a 1 star rating from their most recent inspection in July 2019 and require major improvement. Dudley environmental health are still investigating as I write this review and are awaiting reports from their doctor and samples.
We've since returned from our honeymoon and have visited Chutney twice to speak to a manager. The first time the waiter just smirked at me the whole time, told me he would go and get the manager and returned from the kitchen to tell me that the manager 'wasn't there' but he'll be in on Thursday. Thursday comes we go again, the restaurant is still experiencing electrical issues and the delivery drivers are attempting to fix them and I ask to speak to the manager again and am told to wait. Twenty minutes later, another waiter comes over and says the person I need to speak to is on holiday and they don't know when they are going to be back but they will give us £25 back towards our bill, which is quite frankly an insult for a £60 meal that nearly resulted in our wedding day and honeymoon being cancelled and my parents needing several days off work.
So no I wouldn't recommend Chutney to anyone and would actively recommend avoiding there as not only does their food hygiene require major improvement so does their...
Read moreA party of 20, including 3 babies and 4 children attended on Wednesday evening for a birthday meal.
Firstly the restuarant is beautifully decorated and stands well above other local Indian restuarants for the layout and interiors. Everything was clean and toilets were spotless.
The restuarant is bring your own booze with 2 off licences over the road. Staff were helpful with providing glasses and offering to cool our drinks for us. They also had a wide variety of soft drinks available for the adults and children.
The staff were attentive all evening having reserved a corner of the restuarant for us. They were all cheerful and were great with the children. They had a perfect balance between hosting with a smile and giving us space to enjoy our evening.
They had 2 high chairs for toddlers and were fine with us bringing one of our own.
The food was enjoyed by everybody with a wide range of currys, English meals and children's meals. The party included a vegan and 2 vegetarians and all were able to find great meals. Out of a group of 20 of us, every single one of us enjoyed our meals, which is quite the achievement! Poppadoms came with plenty of dips. The portions were big. The chips - wow - you have to try them! The service was quick considering the number of us, but the evening did not feel rushed at all and we had no pressure from staff to leave. We got there at 18:30 and all left around 22:00 hours.
Staff the went above and beyond and presented the birthday girl with lovely flowers, a bottle of prosecco and chocolates - what a special end to a lovely evening. Staff also took photos of the group for us and were very helpful getting us all into position and grabbing the attention of the children to look at the camera.
A great evening had by all and we shall definitely be returning for family meals in the future. They also do tribute nights that we are eager to try out.
Thank you for a wonderful night and thank you for being so accommodating.

Read moreWe have been to this restaurant a number of times with our friends who live nearby. Food cannot be faulted, 5 stars, but the people who work there are miserable, they don't even attempt to hide it.
One person on our table of 12 asked for no coriander so he said no coriander on anyones. Would understand if it was an allergy for this person but it was just a dislike. Anything we asked for seemed like an inconvenience. We had children with us who they looked at as being a problem, even though they were sitting colouring and playing nicely whilst waiting for food.
When paying, my friend went to pay for the whole bill so I removed his card before it was processed. "That just cost me 40p" the server aggressively told us. I happily added the 40p charge extra to be able to split our bill. That's not a way to talk to your customers.
Table behind us complained also, though I do not know what about. Potentially just a bad night for them, but the atmosphere amongst the staff and their rude tones and comments fo our table made it much...
