What has happened here? Has it changed ownership?
As soon as you go in it's so clearly gone downhill. There was no customers in, but a table full of dirty plates, and a very messy counter top. The salt and vinegar condiments were filthy. Outside is messy with weeds and litter all over the place. This used to be such a gem of a place.
We ordered an adult fish, plain chips and mushy peas, a child's fish bites and chips, and an Adults chicken meat, chips and salad.
The kids meal was ok, but enormous. The portion was bigger than one of the adult meals.
The adults fish, chips and mushy peas was ok, but the fish had loads of bones in.
The chicken meat, chips and salad was just disgusting. The salad was a pile of two day old lettuce with some badly chopped tomato and cucumber. No onion, tasteless and dry. The chips were ok, but in comparison to the children's meal the portion size was small.
The biggest one issue was the chicken. Whatever it was. It was barely recognisable as chicken. It was a red sludge, with tiny shards of burnt meat and globs of 'meat'.. terrible. Absolutely disgusting.
It took not more than a couple of hours to have bad stomach cramps and all that follows 😬
The lady serving was so happy and polite, it's such a shame that the rest of the experience didn't match. .
We used to come to sit in frequently when we lived near, but we're not going back again...
Read moreService was terrible, waited for what seemed like forever, had to prompt them as I think they had forgotten us in the dining area, watched lots of customers come and go for the takeaway whilst waiting. Ordered two milkshakes to go along with the food which had to be sent back because they tasted vile, after a long wait they bought out the replacement shakes which were just as bad, sent them back and ordered another flavour which was no better, only bought out one replacement not two and decided to leave, the so called milkshake went down the sink. do not order the milkshakes, I don't think they used milk at all just lots of ice and squirty cream on top with whatever flavouring they could cobble together. There was what I presume delivery drivers wondering in and out of the the kitchen from outside in casual wear, this started ringing hygiene bells. The cod and battered chips were ok and the chicken tika meat and salad was ok, the food is nothing like it was before being taken over. certainly not returning and wasting my money. Over £40.00 for one cod and small chips, one small chips, one tika meat and salad, one can of pop and two undrinkable milkshakes. well overpriced and certainly...
Read moreThe issue with giving three star reviews is that people/owners think they are bad, they are average, just what this place is average.
I'm not astounded by it, or put off by it, but there are certainly things that could be done better. Waiting times in the queue for example, one person serving on a Friday afternoon/evening makes things take a while. Receiving the incorrect item, and only finding out once you get it home is frustrating. However it is the cost that is the most average, you can literally walk two minutes away to the Glassworks pub, and get Fish 'n' Chips and a drink for less than a Fish 'n' Chip shop, and in a nicer environment if you are sitting in.
The food is fine, the chips were good, and the fish was fresh, the chicken kebab meat was plentiful and it tasted great, but the rest of the experience I have had here let the food down, which is a real shame.
Would I come again, yes I would if only to see if things have improved from a service standpoint, since as I already said the food...
