Our first time at Arbuckle's although we've walked past it many times on the way to the cinema next door. Along with a couple of other eateries, plenty of option pre or post a movie.
Simple booking through a clean website and arrival was swift and courteous. Throughout our evening the staff were nothing short of brilliant. Consistently polite and helpful with a professional manner but friendly approach.
A nice modern place, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a nice atmosphere. Plenty of space between guests and accessible throughout the restaurant to all.
We found a great selection across the menu which made choices pleasingly difficult! Opted to share a few starters of halloumi fries, Mac n cheese bites and nachos. For the 3 of us we all felt quite satisfied after those and wondered about 'needing' mains!! But, the thought of the order kept us up for it!
A Chicken, halloumi and avocado burger, chicken fajitas and finally a Jungo arrived and all looked delicious. Portions were plentiful and my wife and I thought the fajitas would have done for both of us! My daughter fought through the burger and couldn't finish!! Big plates and perhaps no starters required!!
The key drawback for us all was the chicken breast included in all dishes we had. Thoroughly cooked but sadly to the point of being very dry! The chargrilled outer seemed perfectly done but somehow the inner was bone dry and sadly was the talking point on the way home. Hopefully it was a one off as it is a promising place to eat.
Otherwise it was a lovely meal and evening and I believe we will be back, but perhaps for...
Read moreI ordered a dip and flip burger. My partner ordered a no bone T bone, and per his words, the sirloin portion was way more tender than the fillet, and that isnt saying much, as the sirloin was super tough, and the fillet was basically the consistency of a rubber bouncy ball. Also, he ordered the steak as medium rare, and the fillet was medium at best, and the sirloin was medium well at best. Also, the £30 steak wasnt seasoned or marinated at all, and according to staff, none of their steak or beef is seasoned. It's all straight from the Tesco pack it came from. Okay, the last part isnt what she said, but I'd say a Tesco steak would be miles better. The fries were oven baked and not baked very good I might add, the bacon was way too hard and dry and not very flavorful, and the loaded potato skins were way too cheesy, and not enough anything else. The salsa with the skins was good though. For a cheap meal, it wouldn't be too bad of a place to go. But what you'll pay here, it isnt worth your money, or your time. I've been told this tastes as close to America as you can get in the UK, that's preposterous. The special edition American burgers at McDonalds are more American tasting than this place. And that's coming from someone who has lived in America for decades.
Receipt attached to show they took it off our bill. The place Is run by teens with little experience ,The whole time we were there they crashed a few plates, which got annoying as we wanted a nice evening together. The Maître'd wasnt very welcoming he looked like he just wanted...
Read moreOriginally, we didn't plan on coming here this afternoon but we did in the end. Perhaps, I should start at the beginning! My sister booked our family in at Beefeater Traveller's Rest in Girton for my birthday dinner today. She did that several weeks ago and she gave them her contact details as well. After weeks of looking forward to getting together for an afternoon, we made our way to the restaurant only to be met by a notice on the door stating that they were shut for maintenance! Their website did not state any of this, in fact, it said they were open! Not once did Beefeater get in touch with my sister to tell her about this so we would be able to make other arrangements. So after a lot of ringing around to find somewhere that had a table of 7 available, and after explaining what had happened, I was able to get a table at Arbuckles. The lovely lady on the phone had a table free for 3 o'clock and said, even though we might be a bit late ( we still had to make the trip back into Ely!), she would hold the table and not turn us away. Fantastic service from that moment until we left. I can't remember the young lady who served us throughout our meal but she was so brilliant and accommodating. The food was delicious, my steak was cooked perfectly and everyone was happy with their food as well. I thought the small touch of having a birthday candle in my dessert was lovely! A lovely ending to what could have been a disaster. So much so, that one the way out we booked again, for a month's time for my niece's...
