Over the years we’ve eaten at the Cutter Inn many many times and have recommended same to others. Unfortunately our most recent visit was not to the standard we’ve become accustomed. As per usual I booked well in advance and requested a table in the window so that my elderly dining guest could watch the boats on the river just as we’ve done on many occasions... it completes our very positive dining experience. The receptionist agreed that they would note same in the book. We arrived for our booking only to be told that a window seat was not available. Our booking was at the top of the page and all others had been highlighted indicating that those diners had already arrived but were listed after us on the sheet and had therefore I believe booked a table after us. A couple seated on one of the window seats had just ordered their food and could only have arrived minutes before us. Obviously they too may have asked for a window seat on booking but according to the list it appeared that they’d booked after us. It was extremely disappointing especially as previously the staff had put a reservation on the table for us. Nevertheless we were comfortably seated and proceeded to order our meal. I was informed that my first selection of ‘fish and chips’ was not available, this seemed bad management as we were not informed before viewing the menu that any items weren’t available. Also this establishment is open for food all day and it was only lunchtime! We asked about another selection as to how spicy the dish was but the waitress didn’t know but did ask a more senior member of staff to advise us. We then made our menu selections. When the food arrived one side dish was not delivered to our table. We asked whether the waitress was yet to bring the dish as we were waiting to start eating but the side had been missed and they were yet to cook it! We had eaten half of our food before the side arrived albeit very tasty once it did arrive. There was no offer of a reduction to the cost of our meal, merely a verbal apology. Their menu has altered over time but the most recent changes are not as pleasing as there are not so many suitable options for us. Having frequented this eatery for over a decade we are less inclined to return anytime soon. A disappointing...
Read moreWay, way too expensive for the food and service you'll get, they take advantage of the view of the river, besides that, nothing to stand out for. If you're hungry and thirsty, you'll need money.
Food: bland and nothing special. You can get better and tasty food from the supermarket or cook it yourself. Halloumi fries, they're more like goujons and you get only 5 pieces, bad advertising.
Sunday Roast menu it's overpriced tho, you'll get burnt, dry roast potatoes, the vegetables are a cheap mix of veg, carrrots not even peeled or not peeled properly, broccoli overcooked and sour like pickles.
Fries with parmesan and truffle oil came out cold and fries tasted like they've been fried for the second time, too dry, dry doesn't mean crunchy. They were like chopsticks. Tip for the kitchen: mix the hot fries/chips with a pinch of salt, parmesan and truffle oil, all together in a bowl and use a microplane grater for the parmesan, so it'll melt on them.
Food took up to 40 minutes to be served, without letting us know that there will be a bit of a waiting time. Also, the reason I'm saying it's overpriced, is because there's no much service, you have to place your order at the bar, take yourself the cutlery with you, at your table, as well as serviettes and sauces. After a long wait, still missed an item after we just double checked with one of the waitress. Yeah, there's no one like present themselves as taking care of your table.
The plating on the salt and pepper squid is just a nonsense, that small side salad. They're basically thrown on the plate like you gonna fed some animals, big whole leaves of lolo salad and julienne of carrots, without a dressing, not even on the side.
Overall, food is not that bad, but they need to improve their recipes and...
Read moreThe Cutter hosted our 80 person sit-down wedding reception and we honestly couldn't find fault.
We had exclusive use of the restaurant from the night before and to set up décor and table plan. We comfortably seated 80 and the staff were helpful during set up and made the tables look incredible.
On the day, there was not a single hitch. Prosecco was available when people arrived, all questions were answered, everyone was seated seamlessly, and all our vendors said the Cutter were great to work with. The staff were attentive throughout the day, tables were served and cleared quickly, and they were fun and friendly throughout. Incredible service.
The food was delicious (a choice of starters and roast dinner). I had garlic mushrooms and chicken, I could eat the mushrooms every day and not get bored. The kitchen catered to a variety of dietary restrictions and allergies and all the coeliacs had high praise for the roast.
We ended the night with a disco and the room was quickly turned around into a dancefloor. Being in our 40s, and having started at midday, we only lasted til just gone 11 but it was a great craic.
We were nervous a few months before as we maybe wanted a bit more hand holding, but it turns out they just knew exactly what they were doing! The weeks leading up to the wedding we spoke regularly to Kirsty and Chloe, they provided all the reassurance and advice we needed and made the process so seamless and easy. I don't plan on getting married again but if I was, I...
