We visited the Fat Otter on a Saturday and found it to be busy with a lovely atmosphere, we were greeted with smiles from the staff who were busy severing other customers' tables. We initially sat at a table downstairs in a great position to see into the open kitchen but the owner quickly recognised the low table was not quite suitable for our height and offered to make up a table upstairs which we accepted. The table upstairs was situated in a lovely position, the upstairs was made up of two/three rooms, and the atmosphere from downstairs flowed around nicely. The menu is a lovely size, only a handful of options in each section, ensuring the quality of the food. We had starters, mains, and dessert in fear of missing out on yet another fantastic course. The food was AMAZING, of very high quality, cooked to perfection, and presented in a beautiful fashion. The staff were all friendly, polite, and attentive in their duties, and we were not left wanting at any stage. Highly recommended, we travelled 30 minutes and would happily double this drive to go back. It was that good.

We had the pleasure of eating at the Fat Otter last night - a fantastic addition to the Ottery food scene! The service could not be faulted, friendly and informative staff with a relaxed atmosphere (and exceptional playlist). The food was delicious, the perfect balance of fine dining meets comfort food! Pork crackling for the win!

Went for Sunday lunch today as a treat to end a week off work. Very impressed with the whole experience. Really welcoming on arrival and pleasant service. Nice venue with a relaxed atmosphere. The food was lovely. We both had three courses. The smoked haddock scotch eggs smelt amazing and looked fantastic. Absolutely delicious. Main courses were the pork and beef and both were nicely cooked served nice and hot. All parts of the mains were delicious including the cauliflower cheese, slightly caramelised carrots and beef suet roasties. I had the horseradish with the beef and it was superb. The pork and crackling that my girlfriend had was lovely. We both finished with the Eton mess cheesecake which was just lovely. Nice to get a cheesecake with a firm base and the topping was delicious. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants delicious food served in a relaxing and...

Lovely evening at the Fat Otter with my wife on the 29 March 2025. We sat in the downstairs area near the kitchen / bar which had a lovely atmosphere. Upstairs the tables were a little quieter for those who prefer that environment (but I love being near the kitchen).

Food was excellently presented and incredibly tasty. And I thought the value was incredibly good for such a high standard.

A small and very friendly team, with excellent service, and staff who went the extra mile to make an off menu mocktail for my wife who was driving. I look forward to going back again in a few months to see the summer menu.

Thank you...
