I give this review a 2 star because my partner was impressed with the Sunday roast, it was a big portion and he really enjoyed it. How ever I ordered the ploughman's, I asked the female waitress if it was a big portion and she said yes it is, I was extremely disappointed the portion was small with little variety on the plate and the same price as the Sunday roast which was no where near as good quality as the Sunday roast, my meal was more like a kids portion size it should be classed as a starter, they obviously do not know how to price their meals, I said to the female waitress that the I was disappointed by the meal size and she just said she will let the chef know, no apologies at all, so I will not be going back, the ploughman's I had in the pub before was huge with a range of cheeses etc.. what a ploughmans should be and a pound cheaper much better quality. If you eat at this pub do not order a ploughman's you will...

Excellent food, excellent service, great Otter beer, super pub. Been coming here since about 1974, and they've finally got the food right! It's very very good, and very reasonably priced. My steak and ale pie was really delicious (tasty gravy, great meat and good pastry) the vegetables "al dente" and fresh and the crispy chips - absolutely superb. I'll try the chicken and leek pie next time, it's bound to be good! Well done: 5 stars from me. Unreservedly.

Well, I can now attest to the excellence of the very tasty venison pie... chicken and leek next!

And since then, their EXCELLENT Sunday roast. Beef cooked beautifully, with a crisp Yorkshire pudding that was mellow on the inside, great roast potatoes, delicious gravy and a generous, well cooked assortment of vegetables, including a nice hot cauliflower gratinée. Couldn't be better - thank you.

Postscript: best "Sunday roast"...

Myself and my partner dropped in on a Friday evening for a meal. Firstly we were very grateful as we shamefully didn't arrive until 20 minutes before food service was due to end, but they were still more than happy to accommodate us. Our wait staff were friendly throughout and nothing was too much trouble. The food was absolutely delightful, SO tasty. We had bbq pulled pork nachos to share and then a burger for main as well as a steak with white wine and Stilton sauce. The burger was lovely, but the steak was especially divine, and the sauce was the star of the show. Would absolutely go there again, so yummy and a lovely welcoming...
