Really lovely spot for a stop on a walk and to sit outside (direct marsh footpath access at the back, lots of bird watching, we saw reed warbler, marsh harrier, skylark, oyster catcher for example). Dog freindly. Nice naturalistic outside seating area. Easy parking when we went in on an early evening in July. Friendly staff. Quirky building with lots of steps and various rooms. Nice clean loos. I bet it's a real favourite with locals and very cosy in the winter? Food: Very quick. They specialise in fish, and the menu is limited if you want anything else. The day/time we went, it was a particularly small choice, I thought. No problem for a pub to do a small selection really well, though. I had a sandwich which was tasty and hearty, but the bread was a bit dry, as though it was cut and left exposed to the air for a while. My husband really enjoyed the chilli halloumi, which he said was very well cooked. We stumbled upon this place, rather than a planned visit. It was a daft choice for non fish lovers really! šŸ˜† But would recommend for the location, staff and facilties alone really. Photo is view from the grassed seating area at the back.

Classic pub just outside Southwold. Great location by the boats and water. Centre page of The World Beer Guide from over 45 years ago had the main bar full of traditional fishermen drinking Adnams. Been going there occasionally for nearly 50 years. Pretty much the same now bar lots of tourists. All outside this Saturday as we had fish and chips in the empty historic main bar room. Crispy beer battered fresh cod. Chips from frozen probably. Adnams bitter not as good as 45 years ago but Potts in the photo said it was. Well cellared. Clear and cool. Good pub.

Great pub located a short walk from Soutwold. Beers very well kept and served, with good selection of Adnams ales. Of course, it goes without saying food prices have gone up, but the quality is still top notch too, so retrospectively, it was OK by us to spend what we did for the food we had. Beautiful location with fine ales and the chance to walk off fish and chips with a walk along the coastal path, would do it every day if possible.

This is usually a lovely place to have a quick drink and something to eat but today was a bit of a nightmare as they didn't seem to have enough staff on. One poor lady seemed to be doing everything. After waiting for over half an hour to get a table, (just for drinks,) as the lady said no food orders until 2pm unless you'd booked, the lady then asked us to look at the app for food, which we tried but it seems that there was an error with the app.?? We then spoke with another couple who said they had been there for well over 2hrs and that was from start to finish, well almost they were still waiting for the ladies dessert, which she did eventually get about 15 minutes after we'd been speaking to them. This taken into consideration we decided not to order food as we might have had to wait ages. We ordered drinks and a lad brought some out but he wasn't sure what they were and took them back šŸ™„ They eventually arrived 10 minutes later, the same drinks but the lady brought them out, we decided to pay for them before we'd even drunk them as we had no idea when we'd see anyone to pay for them. Did feel very sorry for the lady. Hope she did manage to sort...

Agree totally with previous reviews regarding Covid precautions gone too far. Booked a table for this evening and were shown to a table in a room empty except for one other family. Unfortunately there were three flies on the window next to us which were constantly landing on our table. I asked if we could move to an empty table but was told they had a lot of bookings. We asked for the window to be opened but it wouldn't budge. The waitress then suggested she got some fly spray, obviously not ideal near food which by now had arrived. I asked why it was acceptable for us to stay there when there were empty tables and said we would just finish our food and go. After much deliberation we were allowed to move, I felt humiliated and upset as it caused a bit of a scene in front of the other customers. Food was distinctly average and the service awful, at point of leaving 50% of the tables were still empty. The whole situation could have been resolved so easily, avoiding...
