So we found ourselves in Lowestoft on Tuesday and came across a Wetherspoons.. How could we resist 'Tuesday Steak Club'.. Wetherspoons is generally really good value for money. So we opted for the 5oz Gammon with Egg, Mushroom, Peas and Jacket Potato. Surprised to find the price here higher than other seaside towns but when you also include a Bumbu Rum and Pepsi Max how can you go wrong. So first impressions, very clean, large and bright inside.. we headed straight upstairs and noticed the lift available for customers. The upstairs was just as good. The toilets were located upstairs and again very clean and pleasant. The staff were very helpful, friendly and tentative. All good so far.. the food, so this is the reason for only 4*.. The Gammon was rather grisly and a little watery, unsure whether it would have benefited from being cooked a little bit more? The Jacket and Mushroom was also watery. Not the best Steak Club meal but certainly not the worst we have had. I would question whether Wetherspoons has recently changed supplier/products or potentially buying slightly lower grade food due to the issues with our economy? Overall, we would certainly eat here again if we found ourselves in Lowestoft.

This has to be the saddest and worst W/spoons I have ever visited. Despite the large windows and open plan it feels claustrophobic and dark. We ordered lunch for three and paid via the app. After a longer than anticipated wait the food and drinks finally appeared. The food was ridiculously under-portioned, looking like a children's meal. When I enquired where the rest of the meal was the lady serving tables made an underhanded comment about it being what it is? I asked to speak to a manager as I was convinced my £14 burger should have had some substance about it. To make matters worse the food presented to us was cold! Alas the manager merely repeated the line that this was all you get. I was feeling like I was being taken for a fool, so annoyingly, I agreed to have a refund. Just like my dinner I didn't get all of my money back either! I did ask if the chef had given up? Lost their passion for cooking or if Lowestoft was collectively on a diet? I would have been embarrassed to send out what we received. If you're hungry, I would recommend driving straight through Lowestoft and on to Great Yarmouth which has a fabulous parade and a lot more choice. As for this W/spoons, it was dark, quite dirty and the staff were rude, disrespectful and unhelpful. We won't be coming back to the Joseph Conrad and I hope whoever reads this review takes my cautionary tale onboard.

Huge venue, very cheap beer and food, polite and helpful staff and well managed. The app works well too for ordering tonyoue table. Well presented with a bit of character. Toilets are upstairs (as well as copious additional seating) but there is a lift to get there as well as stairs. For what they are, they do it very well, so the removal of a star may seem a little bit unfair but I feel it is justified because nobody noticed the man on the table behind where I was sat emptying the contents of his stomach into a splattered puddle on the floor under the table. Credit to the staff, they responded pretty quickly when I informed them about it and seemed remarkably unphased by the situation, but the dude was stood there vomiting for about 5 minutes and nobody offered a bucket or assistance or even noticed.

When we first arrived, the table was covered in the drink someone had spilt before us. We ended up wiping this off ourselves. We ordered a drink and only one out of the three we'd paid for turned up, but this was resolved by the staff who gave us the remaining two drinks after a long wait. When the food arrived, my ham was going grey and green - something I only fully noticed when I flipped it over. This lead to me feeling very unwell the day after. What I will definitely warn against is the ham egg and chips; upon dining here, the eggs have been a mixture of visibly undercooked and overcooked to the point where the yolk looks burnt. It's a roulette coming here.

I have been in Lowestoft in middle-March, during a research and study trip. The last day I was looking for something to eat and, in front of the train station, I found the Joseph Conrad! A large hall plenty of space, in very peaceful english atmosphere. Very good prices, particularly if compared to London, where I was coming from! The staff was very kind and friendly. I was in a hurry, so I just ordered a fast gammon ham, eggs and chips, and it was ready at a stunning speed! To drink, this time I ordered just a coke. I liked this place and I think I would like to try it again

While on a quick getaway, ordered a gourmet steak, with Mediterranean salad and peppercorn sauce. Beautifully cooked and presented. Upstairs view of railway station and sculpture, see photo. Sat at tbl 107 for this view. Asked waiting staff for some mustard and she brought 2 types. She was polite and pleasant. Ordered and rec'd meal within 10 mins, was just right side of warm. Ordered med steak, very tender and not a lot of gristly bits. Cost me £16.95 for the meal and a pint of Doombar, money well spent imho. I will be visiting here again.
