I've lived in the Surbiton area all my 44 years and never noticed this spot, what a lovely position, loved the setting and really liked the bohemian interior (which may not be to everyone's taste) tables nicely spaced and very comfy chairs, my wife and I had lunch she had a Caesar salad and I had Chicken n Waffles we ordered a prosecco and a beer as well as some fries.
I really wanted the food and service to be as good as the setting, unfortunately it wasn't... while some might like the relaxed service, I like to be asked if my food is good or if i need anything without having to look about for help.
Caesar was nice enough, not enough dressing (but my wife didn't want to ask for more) her prosecco was apparently really good so that made up for it.
Chicken n waffles well what can i say, i was told it was a balanced dish.. either the chef was new or the waitress hadn't tried it. it was horrible. so sweet, overwhelming vanilla flavour and sugar only had an under seasoned avocado spread on the waffle and a pretty boring and thin piece of chicken schnitzel with a zero seasoned crumb (it needs to be a southern fried piece of chicken). I had to pile on salt and pepper but even that couldn't compete with the vanilla flavour. (i fully expected this to be a sweet and savoury experience btw, i appreciate its a waffle)
If someone had come to check on us I probably wouldn't write this but these easy to fix problems could have raised the review as this place is a 5 star review kinda place, shame about the under seasoned food and hands...
Read moreWe found this little gem as we loved visiting their sister restaurant No97. Good food and service so tried out Hideaway and been back several times over the past few months. The staff are super friendly and helpful when you need, the ambiance is relaxed and enjoyable and the food is properly delicious.
They have a nice riverside terrace (shielded from wind and with heaters) as well as inside space now that it is allowed. The food menu isn’t very long but you will find each item is very well composed - the mackerel pate with large chunks of grilled veggies was so yummy - I return just for that, my husband loves the gins! We tried almost everything on the menu and our fave are the pate, grilled octopus and burrata.
The vibe is relaxed, the pace of the meal is quick enough to have a few pre-dinner drinks, but you can also easily make it a nice meal here too. No pressure, no push, and on Fridays - a dj to give it a bit of buzz. The website sets the tone perfectly.
We were so pleased to find this little gem so close to home - oh yes and onsite parking too which makes it that much...
Read moreCame here for a post half marathon meal and it was the perfect end to a lovely morning.
What I like most about the place was the menu had a real point of difference. Chicken and waffles for the table? Yes please.
I've had many a burger (as avid followers of my reviews will know) and this slotted straight into the top 3. The meat was so juicy and full of flavour and the sourdough it was sitting on was just mopping up all those juices. Bread to meat to sauce to salad ratios were optimum. A difficult balancing act executed perfectly.
Everyone in our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed their meals and drinks. Very good value for money too.
Our waitress (having a trial day from one one four) was superb. Chatty, friendly and went the extra mile to meet our different food requests. If she wants the job, please hire her.
Overall a delicious meal in a lovely setting. Id come sooner if i lived close. Nevertheless, very much looking forward to returning on the...
