Thursday 18th September 2025 - Grill Night

After hearing countless suggestions to visit 22 The Square, Cross Hills, on the fringe of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, a friend and I decided to book a table at this very popular family owned Italian restaurant, and opted for their very popular Thursday Grill Night, our table was reserved for 6.30 pm,upon arrival we were greeted at the restaurant entrance with a smile and promptly guided to our table and given a selection of menus, all of which offered a varied, and extensive range of delicious options for both food and drink,

The restaurant itself has a lovely, happy feel about it, with subtle lighting, smart decor, and the soft sounds of people enjoying their evening, and all being looked after by their allocated member of staff, one particular member of staff who did stand out was a chap called Raj who was extremely polite, friendly, and had a professionalism that was quite simply second to none!(we later discovered that Raj is the actual proprietor of 22 The Square)

On to the food, this was the only dilemma of the evening as every meal that the staff walked past with looked and smelt amazing! I decided on the calamari starter which was cooked to perfection! My friend had the king prawns in garlic butter, again cooked to perfection, for the main course I had spotted another diner tucking in to a very well presented Calzone pizza so that was my mind made up! Prawn, chorizo, and a generous filling of mozzarella cheese with a delicious side sauce, absolutely divine! My friend decided on the roast chicken from the grill, all I have to say about that dish is wow! succulent char- grilled chicken, along with a generous amount of onion rings and fries, and presentation which was very impressive! another noted point was the service between courses was perfectly timed,

We were then asked if we would like our drinks replenished and also if we would like to see the dessert menu (which looked incredible) but due to the more than generous main course dishes we had just devoured, we simply had no room for dessert! (next time we will sample the wonderful desserts on offer and skip the starters!)

To summarize,

22 The Square is quite simply amazing in every aspect from start to finish and also extremely competitively priced for the standard of food being served,I think we have certainly found our new go to place when dining out! a true Italian gem!

Grazie all at 22 The Square we will be...

In all of my 53 yrs on planet Earth, Up until Valentines day 2018, I had the same opinion of Italian grub as I did for cat food. (I always taste what my darling little Razzle has to eat) complete and utter Squirrel puke.:) Untill........UNTILL I WENT TO BAR 22 IN CROSSHILLS! WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the "Ravioli Aragosta" ..... Sumptous circular parcels of oyster heaven dripping in ....in....in..... Beautiful stuff. Stuff that was pink! With shrimps, Basil, and a modest touch of addictive fresh cherry tomatoes! I AM A COMPLETE CONVERT! I may now have to check out Pavarotti just to cap the whole experience admirably! This restaurant needs to feature on every self respecting connossiers bucket list. If this is you then you MUST include a visit to this wonderful chunk of Authentic Italy sitting in the middle of Crosshills! IF YOU DONT GO BEFORE YOU DIE THEN YOU HAVE NOT LIVED! Additionally, the manageress is a cheeky little minx with supermodel physique! Entertainment all round! My beautiful midget wife had the Pasta Primevira. I woke in the middle of the night to her making eating noises like mmmmm....ahhhhhh....Yesssss! Safe to say this food entered her psyche on a very deep level! Bar 22 is very very special in the food department. GO THERE SOON!!! (Also... I felt very very healthy the following...

We are absolutely gutted about our poor experience this evening at 22 the square. We have been regular visitors there since it opened and have always been really happy with the food, service and hospitality. Unfortunately this evening’s experience was utterly appalling. It was my daughter’s birthday and we had booked a family meal which we assumed would be the same usual wonderful experience. However, we were served our drinks and the starters to be then sat waiting over an hour. We were told a large group was in the restaurant and they hadn’t pre-booked their food which was causing all the delay. The restaurant was fairly quiet to be honest and our order was not large but we were mindful of how stressed the waitresses seemed to be. It wasn’t very professional to hear the chefs swearing and the general lack of communication was terrible. We asked for our food to be given as a takeaway as it was taking too long and even packing this up this even take a while and it was cold and smothered in salt when we got home - we had to throw most of it away. The Manager was apologetic as were the staff but it felt insincere in parts and the blaming of the larger group whilst still accepting takeaways was beyond me. Really upset to be honest our daughters birthday has ended how it has and sadly will not be...

Okay food, unfriendly service. We booked a table online, however, this was not forwarded to the restaurant staff. With no apology we were informed that the booking system is ineffective. The restaurant was almost empty so we were shown to our table. The waiter was neither friendly nor attentive. After the first course the plates and cutlery were cleared, unfortunately the cutlery was never replaced. Attracting the attention of the staff proved impossible so we had to resort to taking the cutlery from an adjacent, empty table. All in all the food was tasty and well presented. I ordered the pappardelle ragu which tasted mainly of mustard, the texture of the pasta and the ragu were indistinguishable from eachother. The bill arrived promptly.

We came to 22 for a Fathers Day meal and it was lovely. Husband and Son both had Calzone with different fillings, one chunky truffle chips, and one had bacon and onion potatoes, all was Delicious. Daughter had roast beef dinner, which was very tasty with in her words AMAZING Gravy, she didnt need the extra Yorkshire pudding but for £1 you cant say no. I had a monkfish special with a crab sauce which was wonderful. 3 soft drink and a bottle of Bulmers. Generous portions, Staff were friendly, happy, and attentive. We will be back again soon.

Absolutely fantastic roast dinner. The fact the full menu was also available didn't take away from how good the roast dinner was. Great tasting, great portions and great atmosphere in the restaurant. Equally as impressive was the colleague, Aaron who couldn't have been more helpful and charming. Excellent service and very friendly which just made the whole experience that bit better. Also, the offer of two course for £22.00 is fantastic. Highly recommended.
