Thursday 18th September 2025 - Grill Night
After hearing countless suggestions to visit 22 The Square, Cross Hills, on the fringe of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, a friend and I decided to book a table at this very popular family owned Italian restaurant, and opted for their very popular Thursday Grill Night, our table was reserved for 6.30 pm,upon arrival we were greeted at the restaurant entrance with a smile and promptly guided to our table and given a selection of menus, all of which offered a varied, and extensive range of delicious options for both food and drink,
The restaurant itself has a lovely, happy feel about it, with subtle lighting, smart decor, and the soft sounds of people enjoying their evening, and all being looked after by their allocated member of staff, one particular member of staff who did stand out was a chap called Raj who was extremely polite, friendly, and had a professionalism that was quite simply second to none!(we later discovered that Raj is the actual proprietor of 22 The Square)
On to the food, this was the only dilemma of the evening as every meal that the staff walked past with looked and smelt amazing! I decided on the calamari starter which was cooked to perfection! My friend had the king prawns in garlic butter, again cooked to perfection, for the main course I had spotted another diner tucking in to a very well presented Calzone pizza so that was my mind made up! Prawn, chorizo, and a generous filling of mozzarella cheese with a delicious side sauce, absolutely divine! My friend decided on the roast chicken from the grill, all I have to say about that dish is wow! succulent char- grilled chicken, along with a generous amount of onion rings and fries, and presentation which was very impressive! another noted point was the service between courses was perfectly timed,
We were then asked if we would like our drinks replenished and also if we would like to see the dessert menu (which looked incredible) but due to the more than generous main course dishes we had just devoured, we simply had no room for dessert! (next time we will sample the wonderful desserts on offer and skip the starters!)
To summarize,
22 The Square is quite simply amazing in every aspect from start to finish and also extremely competitively priced for the standard of food being served,I think we have certainly found our new go to place when dining out! a true Italian gem!
Grazie all at 22 The Square we will be...

Read moreWe are absolutely gutted about our poor experience this evening at 22 the square. We have been regular visitors there since it opened and have always been really happy with the food, service and hospitality. Unfortunately this evening’s experience was utterly appalling. It was my daughter’s birthday and we had booked a family meal which we assumed would be the same usual wonderful experience. However, we were served our drinks and the starters to be then sat waiting over an hour. We were told a large group was in the restaurant and they hadn’t pre-booked their food which was causing all the delay. The restaurant was fairly quiet to be honest and our order was not large but we were mindful of how stressed the waitresses seemed to be. It wasn’t very professional to hear the chefs swearing and the general lack of communication was terrible. We asked for our food to be given as a takeaway as it was taking too long and even packing this up this even take a while and it was cold and smothered in salt when we got home - we had to throw most of it away. The Manager was apologetic as were the staff but it felt insincere in parts and the blaming of the larger group whilst still accepting takeaways was beyond me. Really upset to be honest our daughters birthday has ended how it has and sadly will not be...
