Nice local venue in Little Suttons growing food Culture. Large pleasantly styled place , with a relaxing "no Rush" atmosphere, Staff friendly and you are made to feel welcome, seem to specialize in cocktails from which the other half tells me are very nice ( confirmed by the rate she appears to put them away .... although the frequent offers on these helps with the payment side ... seeing as this is the side of the operation that apparently I am responsible for).
The food is nice, a small selection but freshly made and something for everyone ( I should know as I am a fussy eater ), value for money (as long as you remember this is no mass produced burger production line that will give you a "Jolly Meal" with a kids toy and a cardboard hat).
Downsides are the fact that the owners don't seem to want to promote the food side of the operation, nothing on the outside of the venue , a couple of menus on the window may entice some in, or once you are in the table have drink menus with the cocktails lists etc, however nothing is mentions about the array of food that is available ... sometimes all it takes is when you arrive at the place and go to the bar to order your first drinks for the staff to add " And are you dining with us this evening / afternoon" and so on.
Would use the place again , in fact have done of a few times , would like to try the Sunday menu as I believe it's very good, would give the place 5 stars if it was not for their own lack of self promotion, as I would like for this type of place to succeed, on our first trip to the place me and the other half could not figure out if they still served food , had to enquire , others may have turned around and gone elsewhere.
Cheers "Alfies" see you Thurday , mines Spaghetti...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stayed in Little Sutton for two nights in August and found Alfie's the first night. The co-owner (Col the Younger) was very attentive and made excellent suggestions for wine and food. The restaurant is a very popular bar for the locals, but I loved the food and the Art Deco atmosphere. The 3 of us had a variety of dishes, but my favorite was the mushroom pasta and the desserts. Yum!! We enjoyed the restaurant so much that we returned the following night and were met by the other owner (Col the Elder), who treated us like celebrities. Based on the service, food, and reasonable prices we experienced, I do not understand the negative comments for this little gem. I would go back to Little Sutton ( a great place to stay if you want to visit Liverpool or Chester) just to eat at Alfie's again. The Americans really loved meeting the owners and enjoying their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited here on a Friday evening....un pleasant entrance- as the whole bar stops and stares as you walk in.... due to the entrance area being completely open- trying to ignore the clicky environment we were seated in the restaurant area. Service was fine, food was hot and served well - fish n chips pretty tasty to be fair. The place has a sports bar feel about it. Big tvs with sport on. On the whole- Not what I was expecting - I was expecting a wine bar with a Cozy feel- the high ceiling which creates noise and the fact when y walk in - the bar stops with everyone turning to view newcomers is unpleasant. As much as I enjoyed my meal i...
