Extremely upset! Booked a family lunch for 14 people, with 3 weeks notice to celebrate my son's 21st Birthday. Only to turn up today to find only 3 small tables had been reserved with not enough space or seats for everyone to sit let alone eat. We were told there was no where to move us too except to the outside seating areas, or we could wait until the other 5 diners had finished and have their tables, (but had to leave by 4pm and this was at 2:30). 3 of these people had only just started their main meal. We declined both offers as even with heaters we did not want to sit outside and it was unrealistic to expect us all to have ordered and eaten 2 courses by 4pm. The manager was called and was totally unapologetic and made me feel I was being unreasonable expecting enough space to have been reserved. I was told we could all eat in the space provided as they usually fit this many people in this space. When I mentioned it was booked for a 21st I was told people have birthdays everyday and that it was irrelevant that we booked 3 weeks earlier. He did say that we could have a discount if we stayed but this was pointless as there was not enough space or time to enjoy a meal. To say I am upset is an understatement we had this planned for months paid for taxis so we could all celebrate together only to be left extremely disappointed. We will...
Read moreFood as usual was good, however apart from our temperature being taken upon arrival there was no social distancing attempted in arranging diners. Having used a couple of other pubs recently to help out which were observing safety guidelines I was disappointed with a pub we have patronised quite a number of times in recent years A few simple measures such as wiping the table prior to being told where to sit would reinforce a feeling of well being. The table was sticky so we wiped it ourselves with our own Dettol wipes. Disposable menus need to be provided as elsewhere as a matter of course in this pandemic. The menu cards were clearly well handled which again needs to be addressed.from a hygiene point. Food accessories were brought but not wiped and the front of house was abrupt without due cause since we asked for some reasonable social distancing in the pub which was not full. It was a disappointing experience apart from the food. Other old hostelries manage to adapt by reducing the number of place settings and this quaint pub could surely do more to reassure guests than the experience we...
Read moreVisited for an evening meal, food was good but service from a particular waitress left a lot to be desired. Who I assume to be the landlady was very pleasant when we arrived but the waitress who served us had very little in the way of customer service. After reading previous bad reviews I assume others have had the misfortune to have been served by her - very abrupt and snappy, was made to feel like an inconvenience, seemed like we were being bad mouthed to other customers within earshot and I can see why others who I assume have been served by her did not feedback their dissatisfaction at the time - I doubt this would have changed her attitude. A reply to a bad review in the last few days seems to suggest this attitude was being addressed but we saw no evidence of this. To any one thinking of visiting, I would find somewhere else as the good food is not worth the awful service that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. If you do decide to...
